We are seeking multi-skilled product designers with a mastery of visual design, experience design, interface construction, branding, and storytelling. We're looking for a designer who's driven by empathy for customers, and the desire to carry ideas from rough ideas to launch. The right candidate works independently and is a passionate collaborator with other design teams, engineering teams and marketing groups.

    Within this studio, the Microsoft Start team is looking for a Senior Product Designer who can craft intuitive interfaces that encourage our users to actively connect with news content and participate in discussions to create a sense of community amongst our audience. More generally, this designer thrives at the intersection of user-focused innovation, system thinking and business acumen, as we integrate AI across Microsoft products, and to provide people with an assistive experience and the critical information they need to be productive, informed and inspired.

    Responsibilities
    • Contributes to design's direction for area of accountability and executes design set by others
    • Leads design on a product with moderate to high visibility, risk, and/or complexity
    • Holds bar for craft across Design, Product Management and Engineering within a major product area
    • Contributes and partners with other major area leaders to ensure product coherence, erasing organizational boundaries from the experience
    • Embraces and lead across all of culture models (e.g., demonstrates customer obsession)
    • Contributes to broader studio culture (e.g., mentorship, onboarding buddy, team morale, Employee Resource Groups/clubs)
    • Understands and acts upon their role in creating a Diverse and Inclusive workplace at Microsoft
    • Balances actively working on the details and finding time to step back at the bigger picture of the product
    • Crafts a story around the WHAT, WHY and HOW for their ideas, while demonstrating via work rather than just words

    Qualifications

    Required/Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design
      • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design
      • OR equivalent experience (e.g., experience using design thinking to solve problems).
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • 5+ years experience working in product or service design
    • Demonstrated sense of interaction design attuned to the fundamentals of user experience, including accessibility and inclusive design
    • Excellent visual design skills with keen attention to details
    • Excellent communication and presentation / storytelling skills, with the ability to energize teams and advocate for your ideas
    • Proficiency in Figma, creating interaction design flows as well as UI kits (working knowledge of Tokens, Variables, Variants, Protyping, etc)
    • Partnering with engineering to deliver cross-platform UI assets
    • Working with teams across complex product ecosystems
    • Working at the intersection of Gen AI, design systems and product making which will in turn transform human-computer interactions, and to advance an existing product to the next level
    • Making product decisions driven by qualitative and quantitative insights
    Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $104,000 - CAD $193,200 per year.
