Health and Safety Coordinator

Scope of the role
The Health & Safety coordinator assists in developing, maintaining, and promoting the KGHM health, safety, and training programs.

They will assist in the identification and control of hazardous conditions and practices and measure, audit and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs as well as the industrial hygiene programs.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that safety programs are developed and in place to reduce injury exposure, minimize loss and provide a base for internal and external audits
  • Ensures that systems are in place, which will effectively monitor and report compliance to all safety/training programs. Leads risk assessment studies as required to ensure adequate control over tasks and activities and risk is reduced to an acceptable level
  • Conducts regular safety audits of work place and assist/facilitate formal investigations
  • Promotes the use of the 5 point safety system, the internal responsibility system and 5 x 5 risk assessment to identify hazards and reduce risk in the workplace. Ensures contract development and strategies fit with management plans
  • Participates on the JHSC and JHSC Steering Committees as a resource
  • Completes SDS Approvals as required.
  • Complete monthly safety topic packages.
  • Represent KGHMI on external committees, associations and safety groups as required
  • Provide input on applicable legal and other requirements, significant hazards, and the views of interested parties in the development of HS objectives and targets
  • Advisor to management team on HS, training and legal issues as required and ensure operations are aligned with organizational values of Zero Harm, Success Through Teamwork, Courageous and Results Driven
  • Schedules, manages, and monitors site security staff ensuring procedure and policies are followed.
  • Support Sudbury Operations on hygiene related concerns/issues.
  • Coordinate and complete hygiene related sampling, testing and reporting as per site requirement.

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

  • 5 to 10 years related mining experience or a minimum of 3 years of previous experience in a similar role
  • Diploma for a Mining Technologist
  • CSRP designation or actively pursuing CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional)
  • Basic Joint Health Safety Certification Training, Train the Trainer, Basic First Aid and CPR, Supervisor's Common Core Certificate, Working at Heights, WHMIS
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate oral and written with all levels of the organization and government agencies
  • Knowledge of Intelex is an asset
  • Moderate experience in risk assessment and risk management. Proven capability to successfully negotiate, implement, and administer high value contract/service agreement
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office

Education:


  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:


  • Health and Safety: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Supervisor Common Core (preferred)
  • Joint Health and Safety Certification (preferred)
