As the City of Edmonton grows to 2.1 million by 2050, we are looking to continually build, revitalize and innovate our open spaces and we are looking for strong GIS Field Asset Assessment Technicians to help us determine the condition of our assets and help us develop strategic renewal requirements for our Open Spaces.


This position combines technology, the outdoors and learning the City of Edmonton from the inside out As a GIS Field Asset Assessment Technician, you will collect GPS Field Data and asset condition data throughout the city.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Use GPS/GNSS technology, collect location, attribution and condition information on City of Edmonton assets
  • Identify, categorize, and measure the extent and severity of distresses observed in accordance with established standards
  • Use various software, preprocess and postprocess digital information for use in the Corporate GIS system
  • Collaborate with other business areas to ensure accuracy and completeness of data
  • Use GIS Software to update the data sets
  • Perform preliminary QA/QC protocols, interpret results and provide corrective actions
  • Perform basic technical calculations involving survey and assessment data
  • Create and update support documentation and complete data quality control resolution procedures
  • Report on productivity accomplishments
  • Ensure all materials are restocked and equipment is accounted for on a daily basis, recharged and maintained
  • Work outdoors and perform a variety of physical duties in all weather conditions
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of Grade 12; postsecondary coursework in Geomatics, Civil Engineering/Technology or a related field would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 1 year of GIS experience, including surveying and assessment of infrastructure assets
  • Demonstrated ability to perform field survey and assessment activities, including lifting up to 10 pounds and extended walking in all weather and environmental conditions
  • Coursework/training in GIS software products would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of GIS software and principles
  • Knowledge of survey and GPS principles and techniques, as well as training in GIS Software (ArcGIS (Esri) and Google Workspace, are assets
  • Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance

Hours of Work:40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
