About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a
Temporary Part Time Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic
Distribution Team.

Our
Distribution Team is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada's Lifeline.

In this role, you will perform a variety of duties related to the production of components from donations received from blood donors and in the distribution of these and other related products to the customers of the Canadian Blood Services.


Formula to Success:


  • Processing blood components such as platelet concentrates and plasma, apheresis donations
  • Maintaining stock of supplies in component laboratory including fractionation products, red blood cells, and platelets
  • Issuing blood and related products to our customers such as Provincial Hospitals and other blood centres, etc
  • Maintaining temperature records of laboratory equipment
  • Responding to product storage temperature alarms

Desired Education and Skills:


  • Grade 12 plus one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other staff, volunteers, donors and the general public
  • Ability to deal effectively with other departments
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the job
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory operations
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment
  • Ability to organize work

What you can expect:


  • Schedule will be weekdays and every second weekend with on call
  • Weekend shift is 7:30am3:30pm
  • Weekday shifts are 6am2pm or 7am3pm
