EMSL Canada is seeking a
Laboratory Analyst (
Microbiology) in
Mississauga,
ON.

No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures.

On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees. Experienced analysts are welcomed to apply.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Preparation and analysis of Microbiological samples (air, water, food and bulk materials) for fungi and bacteria analyses using classical and advanced microbiology techniques
Analyze environmental microbiology samples such as air-o-cell spore traps/tape-lifts for fungi using microscopy
Water testing of bacteria using Idexx test kits
Assist in identification of bacteria using standard microbiological tests such as gram stain, catalase, oxidase tests
Perform daily activities in the microbiology laboratory, such as dilution plating, filtrations, autoclave operations, equipment cleaning and calibrations
Support senior analysts as needed with auxiliary microbiology testing, isolation and sub-culturing bacteria/fungi and sample prep
Maintaining the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Record data in a specified manner per our standard operating procedure
Help with maintaining and troubleshooting equipment as needed
Assist in environmental microbiology report preparations, equipment log book entries and lab clean-up
Fill in reports and send reports to clients
Other duties may be assigned to meet laboratory needs


Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology is preferred
Some environmental microbiology laboratory experience is a plus
Ability to work with a Phase Contrast and Light Microscopes, analytical balances, biological safety cabinets, filtration manifolds, and to adhere to sterile techniques and good lab practices
Ability to multi-task and adhere to requirements of the Quality Management System
Detail-oriented and able to use microscopy for an extended length of time
Good computer skills, both in typing and MS Office Suite
Ability to maintain client confidentiality
Work independently and with a team
Work under pressure and meet deadlines


Available Shift:

Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
