Job Description:


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


This position is responsible for the continued administration, supervision and monitoring of the adherence of the laboratory operations to the Quality Management System and in conformance with ISO/IEC 17025 and with the policies and procedures set up by Natural Resources Trade Management.


This position provides guidance, advises and assists the laboratory on their practices with respect to the requirements of the quality management system and ISO/IEC 17025.


REPORTING TO:

Laboratory Supervisor


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the lab personnel to continuously improve lab products and services.
  • Maintains appropriate Quality Management System documentation control (electronically and hardcopy) with respect to accuracy, distribution and retention.
  • Maintain, monitor and update the standard/chemical log, equipment list for Energy Minerals Labs.
  • In conjunction with the Laboratory and Operation Supervisors, aids in monitoring and maintaining Proficiency testing and Round Robin performance for internal and external programs applicable to site testing capabilities.
  • Liaise with Quality Systems Manager, Operations Manager and Laboratory and Operations Supervisors to report CAPA with respect to laboratory performance in response to customer complaints, claims and internal nonconformances and maintains CAPA program to ensure continuous improvement
  • Under the direction of the Quality Systems Manager, performs internal audits and necessarily follow up according to NAM internal audit schedule (may involve additional site audits as needed)
  • Perform special test calculation, data entry and follow up with staff to ensure job completion in a timely manner.
  • Assist with method development and validations.
  • Provides backup/overflow to Administrative Assistant positions as needed.
  • Support the company code of ethics, quality and safety policies
  • Assist lab supervisor/ manager to handle safety and quality issues.
  • May be assigned and coordinate special or _ad hoc_ projects as needed

Qualifications:


Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving

  • Assure conformance level is maintained for Quality Management System policies and procedures irrespective of operational and production pressures_._
  • Help Operations/Supervisors/Technicians for any technical assistance if required (method validation, verification, CAPA investigation etc.)

Job Complexity

  • Multitasking is a must: Many reports, data, methods may come at the same time. Prioritizing for the best output for the business needs_. _

  • Conformance to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 must be maintained

PROFILE

  • A minimum of a BSc degree (or equivalent) is required.
  • Over 3 years previous experience in laboratory and/or minerals operations is required.
  • Previous experience with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Quality Control related role is preferred.

Specific technical skills:

  • Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Must be accountable, self motivated; provide team leadership and motivation towards a common goal.
  • Must be creative, innovative and task orientated.
  • Has knowledge of international standards and specifications used by the minerals industry.
  • Able to work with technical, sales and management staff.
  • Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint, Outlook,).
