The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Financial Analyst.

This position will be responsible for delineating and assessing information requirements for financial analyses in support of financial planning, budgeting and integrating planning activities.

This includes support for institutional budget development and monitoring, and resource allocation.

The Financial Analyst also provides analysis and reporting in response to information required to support requests from the Provincial Government, the President's Executive Team, other Senior Administration via the Executive Director, Financial Planning and Budgeting.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • A University degree or certificate in a related field together with an accounting designation or a Masters in a related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of five years of accounting related experience, where knowledge of accounting theory and practice has been acquired is essential.
  • Experience working with budgetary, financial and presentation reporting is required. Experience working in a computerized accounting environment is required.
  • Experience working with university financial and interface systems, such as Financial Administrative Support Tool (FAST), Banner and VIP are desirable.
  • Experience working in a university environment would be considered an asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word at an advanced level in a Windows environment.
  • Advanced or expert knowledge using Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft PowerPoint would be considered an asset.
  • Must also be skilled in analysis of complex financial information, with a comprehensive understanding of and experience working with a multi faceted chart of accounts.
  • Must be able to understand complex accounting matters, with a demonstrated ability in creating and maintaining databases, documents, charts and presentations.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and deal effectively and tactfully with the public and all levels of staff, including senior management.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, multitask and prioritize work with mínimal supervision.
  • Must maintain good relations with all university departments and faculties, and have the ability to work independently at a high level.
  • Ability adapting to an everchanging environment.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing creative publications and presentations is desirable.
  • Proficiency using graphics, desktop publishing, with WI-FI networks and wireless communication devices (iPad, apple tablets) would be an asset.
