Description
Trans Mountain operates Canada's only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast.

We deliver approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state.

This position is based in our Calgary office and will report to the Team Lead, Hazard and Risk Management.

Duration:
May 1, 2023 to August 31, 2023


Key Responsibilities:


  • Screen and communicate all reported and potential hazards for assessment and possible action, monitoring progress of required program actions;
  • Prepare reports and identify areas for improvements to be communicated during quarterly meeting;
  • Review and analyze incidents and near misses under the direction of the Compliance Analyst;
  • Compile Quality Assurance Annual Report Appendices;
  • Populate meta data and archive Compliance Records;
  • Maintain and update the Unified Hazard and Risk Register;
  • Keep event dashboards up to date;
  • Support the team by updating the internal trackers, folders, and reporting systems; and
  • Assist with other team functions (risk management and audit) and support as necessary.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:
  • Enrolled in Computer Science, Information Management, Insurance and Risk Management, or a related discipline in Business or Science, preferably entering third year or higher;
  • Strong ability to navigate SharePoint and other relevant software;
  • Understands basic compliance concepts;
  • Highly developed research and writing skills;
  • Analytical mindset with demonstrated critical thinking and problemsolving skills as well as the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines;
  • Approaches challenges with mental tenacity and ability to overcome resistance;
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude;
  • Organized, selfstarter who can work in a team environment;
  • Strong attention to detail and deadline oriented;
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to change; and
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem solving, organizational, and customer service skills.

Other Requirements and Information:


  • Must be enrolled in an accredited postsecondary institution and return to full time studies in the Fall;
  • This role may have an option for hybrid work (combination of inoffice and remote); and
  • Student may have the opportunity to visit the field as part of their role.

In Alberta, the existing pipeline system spans the traditional territories of Treaty 6, 7 and 8, and the Métis Nation of Alberta (Zone 4).


In British Columbia, the system crosses the traditional territories of numerous First Nations that are affiliated with the Secwepemc, Dakelh (Carrier), Nlaka'pamux, Syilx/Okanagan, Interior and Coast Salish, Stó:lo, as well as the Métis.


Trans Mountain also operates through 15 First Nation Reserves located within the region spanning the BC interior through Fraser Valley.
