Day Shift position from approximately 7:30am-4:00pm.
A Day in the Life
Reporting to the Manager, Structural Services, the Locksmith performs duties associated with the University's various door locking systems and associated hardware.
Working at the _journeyman level_ including tasks such as maintaining key file database systems, pinning and installing cylinders, installing and adjusting doors to allow for proper latching, installing hardware, as well as performance of repair and preventive maintenance to specifications and standards of the trade.
As the Locksmith, you will:
- Perform routine maintenance on various building hardware;
- Maintain and update key system database;
- Perform preventative maintenance on locksets, closers, egress doors, including adjusting hardware, maintaining the operation of automatic operators, installing keypads, electric strikes/ latches, card swipes and allowing access or egress to occupants that may be locked in or out of a space;
- Install, program, repair, rebuild, test and open mechanical and electronic locks, locking systems, door closures and locking devices;
- Act as the oncall Locksmith by responding to priority calls requiring immediate attention;
- Assist the Manager, Structural Services with input for planning, material orders, accompanying contractors, estimating costs for minor work, as needed;
- Work with other Facilities Management staff and/or contracted trades on related items.
What you need to Succeed
- Locksmith trade certification or equivalent;
- Current Ontario driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract;
- 35 years of related work experience ;
- Comprehensive knowledge of building access/egress systems including card swipe, auto operators, keying systems and electronic hardware;
- General knowledge of systems and hardware/components;
- Demonstrated knowledge with various Cbased software systems such as Keywizard, MS-Office suite, CMMS, and other related software;
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures;
- Ability to resolve emergency situations quickly, such as to release a person locked in a room;
- Ability to estimate equipment and component requirements for renovations, installations, and repairs.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks.
Preferred or Asset Skills
- Carpenter Trade ticket (403A).
Salary and Benefit Information
- CUPE 1295: $31.68 $33.39* per hour;
- This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage including tuition waiver.
