ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - EARLY LEARNING AND CHILD CARE CENTRE


PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age.

PLASP operates in more than 240 schools providing before school, lunch, and after school programs and 30 full-day early learning and child care centres and six EarlyON locations for children from 0 - 6 years.


The curriculum for PLASP Centres is based on the _HighScope_ approach, where children develop important skills including language, pre-math and pre-reading skills.

The daily routine is designed to allow time for the children to explore and learn independently and for the adults to plan more structured teaching time.

All programing incorporate the Ministry of Education pedagogy, How Does Learning Happen? The PLASP Centres also follow other quality initiatives like Raising the Bar, AQI, and PQA.

THE POSITION INVOLVES

  • Assisting in establishing and maintaining a safe, warm, and caring environment in which a high quality child care program can operate.
  • Working cooperatively with the Program Director and Program Staff to plan, develop and implement a program of stimulating activities for young children which will promote their physical, social, emotional and intellectual wellbeing.
  • Working in conjunction with the Program Director and other Child Care Centre staff to plan and implement a program of activities including crafts, games, music, dramatic play, group activities, circle activities, regular field trips and special events.
  • Performing the duties of the Program Director in the event of the Program Director's absence.
  • Assisting in the leadership, support, supervision, training, and evaluation of other staff, including students on placement and volunteers.
  • Maintaining order and discipline in the program by positive and supportive means, and in accordance with PLASP Behaviour Management Policy.
  • Following all PLASP Health & Safety policy and procedures as outlined in the Health and Safety Manual.
  • Ensuring the Health and Safety of the children is maintained at all times.

THE PREFFERED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


  • A diploma/degree in Early Childhood Education or training which is deemed equivalent by the Ministry of Education
  • Valid registration with the College of ECE's
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a child care centre
  • Experience/or training working with infants, toddlers and preschoolers
  • Knowledge and understanding of the _Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA)_ and practical experience in the Ministry of Education's mandated pedagogy _"How Does Learning Happen?"_
  • Knowledge and practical experience of the High Scope curriculum is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the _(CCEYA)_ and _Ministry of Education _Licensing requirements
  • A valid Standard First Aid Certificate, with level C CPR
  • A valid original Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check, completed within the last six months
  • All health requirements (immunizations) to be met in accordance with the _CCEYA_ and Medical Officer of Health
