McCain Foods (Canada) is currently seeking an Environmental Supervisor to join our team.

This position will be responsible for leading and directing the facility's Environmental and Sustainability Programs as well as the operation of our Wastewater Treatment facility at the Portage La Prairie, MB manufacturing location.


Key areas of focus will include workplace health and safety, team leadership, Environmental Management System ownership, Sustainability, efficient operation of equipment, maintenance planning, engagement and employee relations.

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, you will be a key player supporting the plant strategy through Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People, Environment and Sustainability as we work towards continuous improvement throughout the facility.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Key owner and point person for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
  • Key owner and point person for sustainability programs and projects for the plant.
  • Ensure that McCain Foods Environmental Policy is communicated and followed.
  • Ensure that all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Maintain environmental communications to the plant, corporate engineering team and to regulatory bodies.
  • Develop, implement, and report the environmental objectives for the site.
  • Develop and oversee environmental program continual improvement measures.
  • Lead internal and external auditing activities.
  • Environmental permit establishment and implementation.
  • Prepare and submit government and internal reports as required by provincial and federal regulations.
  • Negotiate with regulatory agencies to derive permit conditions.
  • Solicit consultant assistance and perform engineering studies as required.
  • Submit public comments to draft permit provisions.
  • Supervise Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations and other waste processes.
  • Maximize biogas generation, and energy savings opportunities.
  • Operation and scheduling of mud removal system which is a waste stream from the potato receiving area of the process.
  • Monitor and maintain an offsite landfill area for disposal of rocks and mud.
  • Responsible for addressing with management payments of government permits, contractors, chemicals, supplies, equipment, and maintenance.
  • Daily general waste stream review and removal scheduling for from the site, including peel, rocks, mud, refuse, scrap metal, oil, frozen waste, etc.
  • Proactively foster and promote the safe work habits, following proper safety policies and procedures of employees and contractors.
  • Active participation in health & safety initiatives, taking a lead role in safety optimization and the drive towards zero incidents.
  • General Supervision Duties to the Operators including performance management, scheduling, and leading everyday engagement.
  • Ensure all HACCP guidelines, rules and regulations are being followed throughout their area of responsibility, including the proper completion of all required documentation.
  • Empower employees and drive continuous improvement through the support of continues improvement and MDI (McCain Driving Impact) principles.
  • Prepared and manage fiscal budget for operation, maintenance and capital planning for waste treatment system.
  • Work closely with Powerhouse team.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in Engineering. Relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Wastewater Treatment certification is considered an asset, but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience in supervision, process line operation, lab analysis.
  • Preference for experience in ISO certification standard.
- knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations.

  • Computer Aptitude computer use as well as an understanding of associated software (i.e SAP, Office)
  • Demonstrated experience leading, influencing, engaging and training others.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a fastpaced work environment.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals across various organizational levels.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, motivate and train others.
