Opportunity:
MacEwan University is looking for a Family and Community Liaison to join the Child Care Centre on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Manager of Early Learning at MacEwan, the Family and Community Liaison (FCL) role is multifaceted, supporting and fostering a healthy early childhood community.

The FCL establishes and nurtures strong relationships with current and prospective families, assisting them in accessing necessary support and resources, addressing any issues, and creating a supportive network.

The FCL will also offer ongoing support to playroom teams and children, playing a crucial role in shaping the early educational journey of the children. This position involves working closely with children, families, educators, faculty, students, and community professionals.

Key responsibilities:
  • Prioritizing the child's sense of belonging within the family and community.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with early learning programs and the community to enrich the child's connections.
  • Ensuring inclusive and respectful approaches in all interactions with families.
  • Assisting the Manager with playroom planning, waitlist management, and enrollment procedures.
  • Upholding quality early learning practices aligning with the institution's vision and values.
  • Initiating discussions on new ideas for planning and environment within Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework.
  • Implementing best practices in early learning, including child-led, play-based curriculum, and promoting inclusion.
  • Demonstrating early childhood care philosophy with families, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participating in orientation and professional development activities within the Centre.
  • Cultivating positive work relationships with colleagues to foster a supportive work environment.

Skills required:
  • Proficiency in family-centered practice, relationship-based practice, and a rights-based approach.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to empathize and convey information effectively.
  • Cultural competence to engage with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges.
  • Organizational skills to manage tasks efficiently.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to respond to changing needs and dynamics.
