    The role. We are seeking a full-time, permanent Asset Integrity Inspector within our Maintenance & Engineering Department. Reporting to the Chief Inspector, the Asset Integrity Inspector will take the lead on many elements while supporting all the requirements of MPR's Integrity Management System. This position provides the opportunity for future growth within the department.

    Role and Responsibilities:

  • Uphold performance to Mercer's Vision and Values and support of Mercer's Mission Zero and uphold all expectations placing safety as your #1 priority.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control functions for equipment repairs and installations, including generation and completion of inspection and test plans.
  • Identify all static asset permanent and progressive records to prepare work scopes for inspection events.
  • Identify any process safety information that is beneficial in developing inspection work scopes.
  • Initiate and process inspection work orders and found work (repairs) of equipment including estimating the time, resources and cost required.
  • Generate work packages and inspection plans to identify the type, amount, and acceptable results of inspection and testing for equipment inspections.
  • Coordinate the execution of any pre-outage and outage activities in order to execute the required inspections.
  • Expedite, supervise, and provide technical direction during the inspection execution.
  • Evaluate damage mechanisms and determine the correct inspection and NDE methods for detection.
  • Support the department with the completion and approval of pressure equipment repair and alteration plans.
  • Coordinate SRV servicing, monitor and inspect SRV installations and control documentation.
  • Ensure that all inspection and NDE activities required for construction and installation of pressure equipment are completed and documented in accordance with MPR design specifications, the Act and applicable Codes of Construction.
  • Perform NDE examinations (PT, MT, UT) within the scope of Mercer's Owner User Program.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Engineers and Project Managers as well as Maintenance and Operations team to maintain plant regulatory compliance, effective execution of shutdowns, outages and production targets.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving technical issues. Provide relevant risk management information.
  • Additional duties as required.
  • Qualifications and Experience

  • Completed High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field is preferred (Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, First Class Power Engineer's Certificate, Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a Second Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency), or a minimum of 5+ years experience as an Asset Integrity Inspector is preferred.
  • The successful candidate should have valid and current certification for at least one of the following: In-Service Pressure Equipment Inspector Certificate of Competency; API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector Certification; API 570 Piping Inspector Certification; CGSB Certification for Non-Destructive Testing, any or all of MT, PT, UT certification.
  • Good understanding of ABSA, Alberta Safety Codes Act and Pressure Equipment Regulation.
  • Experience performing integrity assessment inspections, quality control inspections, witnessing tests and completing documentation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relate in a positive manner to all levels of management and staff with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Experience working with CGSB or ASNT, CWB, API.
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Google G-Suite and Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Knowledge of process operation static equipment – boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, process piping and the maintenance requirements for these components.
  • The following are considered an asset, however, the successful candidate will be required, as part of the job criteria to obtain some or all of the following: API 653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector; API 580 Risk-Based Inspection; National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors – In-Service Commissioned Inspector.
