The Craft Council of NL Gallery at Water Street St John's is the only dedicated craft public gallery in the NL province.

Since 1991, The Gallery encourages innovation and excellence in the creation of contemporary craft and promotes awareness and regard for the craft traditions of the province.

The Gallery provides both an exhibition setting and a market venue for fine craft.

It is instrumental in encouraging the development of the local market for high end, one of a kind works of craft, and in providing an essential step on the road to national and international achievements for Newfoundland and Labrador makers of fine craft.

The Gallery maintains three exhibitions' spaces at 155 Water Street.


The Craft Council Gallery seeks to raise the profile and market for fine contemporary craft and expand the boundaries of contemporary craft practice through exhibition opportunities, documentation, research and critical writing, promotion, artist presentations and educational projects.


We are currently looking for responsible, courteous and enthusiastic Gallery Attendants with strong communication skills to provide great front-line service to visitors, and to encourage meaningful public engagement with historical and contemporary craft through daily interaction and public programs.

Full-time, Fixed contract (One Year) With possibility of extension hr / week


Work Days:
Weekdays and Weekends (as needed), some evening shifts may be required.


Compensation:
$20.86 per hour

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:


The Gallery Programming Coordinator (GPC) position will be line managed by to the Executive Director, and oversees the day-to-day work of the other team members.

The GPC has a regular operational relationship with staff, students, artist in residence, volunteers and the Board of Directors.

The GPC oversee the smooth administration, logistics and coordination of all programming in the space throughout the year (including but not limited to planning, installations and take down of exhibitions, shipping and receiving of artwork, gallery maintenance, documentation, event coordination and communications).

Please note that this is not a curatorial position.

The GPC will play an important role helping to establish the community led ethos of the

Craft Council Gallery:
a lively hub with an inclusive and accessible cultural space and activities.


The below are some but not limited duties of the position

  • Assist with the development and delivery of onsite and offsite gallery projects and exhibitions to ensure they remain on schedule, to budget and deliver on agreed criteria with funders with the support of the senior management team
  • Coordinate the structure and delivery of seminars and public art talks and workshops as part of individual project outputs
  • Support the Director, in the delivery of individual project priorities linking to our in house program
  • Administer the daily tasks of the gallery space including grant writing, sales, and management and liaise with project partners to ensure smooth delivery of projects and exhibitions
  • Work with the CCNL team to develop website and social media content in relation to exhibitions and programming
  • Support and communicate with artists for the best development of the exhibition and related programming
  • Ensure that consent and data protection procedures have been adhered to and there is consistency across all projects, exhibitions, formats and platforms
  • Ensure the gallery program meets its objectives through collaborative work with partners, artists

Person specification and experience
You must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in craft, the Craft Council Gallery values and program. You will be an excellent team player and able to work under pressure in a busy office environment.


You will have:
- project management experience with multi partner projects in the arts
- experience of relationship building and liaising with artists
- strong knowledge of contemporary craft and curatorial practice
- experience in managing budgets
- experience in fundraising
- experience in minute taking
- a thorough and proactive approach to your work
- good writing skills and an ability to write clearly for different audiences and media formats
- competency across office IT programmes
- experience using social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube etc
