Position Overview:


Support services are needed to assist in the reintegration of Indigenous offenders who are releasing from federal correctional facilities into urban centres.

Location

  • Truro, NSJob Type
  • Part Time
    Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for providing health, wellness, life skills training and/or counselling to Indigenous clients prior to release.
  • Ensuring that clients have the services they need to reintegrate into the community.
  • Supporting Indigenous clients releasing from correctional facilities to disaffiliate from gangs by supporting cultural identity training or counselling.

Qualifications:


  • Must be within a 200km commute of the Nova Institution for Women
  • Two years experience within the last four year providing cultural identity training or counselling with a focus on promoting gang disaffiliation OR two years experience within the last four years providing health wellness or life skills training or counselling to Indigenous people in a group or individual setting
  • Ability to effectively identify problems and offer appropriate resources, referrals, and information to assist the individual in resolving the crisis
  • Strong knowledge of appropriate mental health, addiction, problem gaming/gambling and other community resources for system navigation and referral
  • Critical thinking and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently navigate multiple computer systems
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Additional Requirements:


  • You will be able to obtain a Federal Security Clearance
