Stenberg College is currently seeking a
Licensed Optician (Eyeglasses and Contact Lens Fitter) who can serve as a full-time Online Theory Instructor, Face-to-Face Instructor, as well as assume the responsibilities of a Lab Coordinator in our
Optician Program This position is an exciting, multi-faceted role that will allow you to work within our team to help educate future Opticians across Canada.


This program ensures that students gain a comprehensive education in the areas of eyeglass dispensing, contact lens fitting, and automated refraction.

Emphasis is placed on interpersonal communication, customer service, and professional practice. This program prepares students to successfully complete the national licensing exam.

Job Summary:
The position requires overseeing day-to-day operations of the labs, as well as delivering lectures and hands-on training to students.

The Lab Coordinator for the Optician Program plays a vital role in organizing the optical lab for educational purposes, ensuring it's well-equipped, safe, and conducive to learning.

When not in labs the coordinator is a part-time instructor teaching online or labs.


Salary Range:
$75,000-$80,000


Qualifications:


  • Completion of an accredited Optician program.
  • Comfortable teaching online courses.
  • A Licensed and Practicing Optician with a minimum of three years' experience in;
Eyeglass Dispensing and/or

Contact Lens Fitting

  • Understand the guidelines set out by the College of Opticians of British Columbia (COBC).
  • Passionate about investing in students and the Opticianry industry.
  • Automated Refraction is an asset.
  • Experience in Edging would be an asset.
  • Experience in fitting gaspermeable lenses an asset.
  • Completion of Adult Learning Certification is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and GSuite.

Key Responsibilities:


Instructor:


  • Deliver Online and/or FacetoFace lectures, demonstrations, and handson training to students in various aspects of opticianry, including lens fabrication, frame fitting, contact lens fitting, and refracting.
  • Indepth knowledge in all aspects of opticianry
  • Support the development and updating of curriculum.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements.
  • Successfully administer practical assessments and evaluations to measure student progress.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education Deliver, Department Head, and Curriculum, Learning, and Teaching Specialist.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant data.

Lab Coordinator Responsibilities:


  • Oversees lab setup and maintenance.
  • Manage inventory, order supplies, and maintain equipment.
  • Prepare lab materials for assessments, practical exams, and assignments.
  • Coordinate volunteer appointments, models, and lab courses.
  • Support lab instructor in orientation and compliance.
  • Maintain a professional, organized lab environment.

Required Lab Skills:


  • Neutralize and verify eyewear.
  • Accurately adjust eyewear.
  • Edge and mount lenses (semirimless and full rim frames).
  • Calibrate and maintain all lab equipment.
  • Perform basic eyeglass repairs.
  • Use and maintain manual lensometer, slitlamp, keratometer, radiuscope, phoropter, and other optical equipment.
  • Verify, neutralize, and store gas permeable lenses.
  • Chart and fit soft and hard contact lens design.
  • Store and maintain patient and health records according to COBC standards.


A thorough orientation to the college, lab facilities, educational technologies, and teaching best practices would take place prior to stepping into your role.

Ongoing support is provided to both faculty and students.
