Description
The Safety Coordinator assists the operations and Branch Manager to achieve branch safety objectives. The Safety Coordinator helps create, coach, mentor, and ensure company safety policies are followed.

The incumbent must communicate safety issues and implement and review best practices and continuous improvement efforts to aid in Nucor Harris Rebar's vision of zero injuries.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a resource for safetyrelated issues, supporting the Shop Superintendents.
  • Monitor compliance with legislated standards.
  • Provide onsite job hazard analysis through personal observation. Conduct daily shop inspections and record same.
  • Take corrective action if a safety concern is observed.
  • Instruct supervisors on safety and company disciplinary matters.
  • Ensure new hire orientations are given and recorded by supervisors, assist with orientations and check on new employee safety evaluations, oneday, oneweek and 90day evaluations.
  • Responsible for reviewing accidents/incidents/injuries and reporting to management.
  • Maintain Safety Inspection and Auditing Program.
  • Coordinate and provide safety training.
  • Coordinate with claims representatives related to WCB claims and communication requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 35 years of significant Health and Safety experience
  • Working Knowledge of all Provincial H&S Legislation
  • Computer experience/MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint, preferred
  • Capability of managing multiple and challenging priorities daily.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Selfstarter, willing and able to act as a Health and Safety Champion
  • Committed to growing and continuing studies in Health and Safety
  • Comfortable in a Manufacturing environment.

SPECIAL DEMANDS

  • Overtime hours may be required
  • Shift work may be required
  • Must be familiar with and adhere to shop safety policies and procedures

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Working conditions can be noisy/ dusty/ hot/ cold.
