    Unit Summary

    The Systemic Treatment Program at the Juravinski Cancer Centre incorporates Medical Oncology, Hematology and the Supportive Care Programs. Physicians and secretarial staff, along with Pharmacy, Nursing (both primary care and chemotherapeutic), dietitians, social workers and support staff work comprehensively in the care and treatment of the oncology patient. Academic activity, research (Clinical Trials) and education are incorporated under the Department of Oncology within this department.

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Supervisor, the medical secretary works in a team environment providing clerical and secretarial support, as well as telephone triaging of patient calls, general office management

    Schedule Work Hours

    Monday to Friday, days. This is a temporary position until approximately November of 2025.

    Qualifications
  • Community College diploma from a recognized two-year Community College or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years' secretarial experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the telephone triaging of patients
  • Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 or demonstrated knowledge equivalent to the Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2, which may be subject to testing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Proficient keyboarding skills, 60 w.p.m.
  • Ability to transcribe from dictation.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and proficiency in English grammar.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively handle inquiries from a variety of sources (patients, families and physicians).
  • Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing workload.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Tact and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Ability to work independently and identify priorities.
