Description

Under the direction of the on-site Supervisor, assisting with the effective and efficient implementation of the City of Windsor's pilot program at Waterworld within established time frames and legislative requirements.


The Area Monitor is responsible to monitor the facility's common areas, both inside and outside to ensure the safety of staff and clients.

The Area Monitor will complete checks of the parking lots, bathrooms, hallways, gymnasium and other common areas and will respond to situations with clients as they arise, and will maintain knowledge of the whereabouts of all clients, and will accompany all clients as they leave the facility.

Responsible to complete regular reports as required.


Education & Skills:


Post secondary education, and 2-3 years recent and relevant experience working with the low income / marginalized clients and the ability to treat clients in a way which is non-judgmental and without bias.


Work Experience:


Capable of working both on own initiative and in a team environment, support clients who are experiencing homelessness, and / or emotional / social / behavioral difficulties.

Proven interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, Internet and standard office equipment is essential.


Knowledge:
Recent and relevant working knowledge of the Social Services, Community Agencies and Housing Related Programs.

Current knowledge of best practice models, including:
Housing First, Harm Reduction, Knowledge of housing and homelessness issues in Windsor-Essex preferred.

Knowledge of CHR, BNL, and Rent Supplement guidelines, knowledge of transitional and permanent housing resources, including social housing and housing with supports, throughout Windsor-Essex an asset.

Ability to speak other languages an asset.

Able to deal with frequent change, delays, multiple requests (phone & in-person), high volume of requests, while addressing written tasks, unexpected events etc.


Spoken and Written Communications:

Able to clearly present information through the spoken word (telephone & in-person) and in writing and to document activities; to read and interpret written information; listen well.


Interaction:
Able to communicate with others in a warm and helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport. Awareness and sensitivity to clients experiencing homelessness as well as the needs of the vulnerable sector an asset.

Organization and Planning:
Attention to detail when completing tasks with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload. Provides regular reports regarding activities and housing outcomes.

Problem Solving:
Able to assist in ensuring housing goals are met.

Ability to provide excellent co-ordination, consultation, interpersonal, negotiation / mediation, facilitation, creative problem solving, critical analysis and information synthesis skills.


Safety:
Demonstrates skill around personal safety, de-escalation of clients and ability to advocate for responsible harassment-free behaviour. Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Checks required. Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification an asset. Updated CPR and First Aid Certification required.


Environment:
Must own reliable mode of transportation and a valid Ontario driver's license.
