Description
Brandt is currently looking for a Safety Coordinator in British Columbia and Alberta area. This position can be located in any BC company's branch. Safety Coordinator will support the branches of the area with safety program implementation and compliance.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement Brandt's corporate health and safety program at its locations in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Monitor the company's compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and other legal requirements.
  • Conduct audits and inspections according to requirements.
  • Deliver or organize health and safety related training as required.
  • Continuously improve health and safety outcomes and organizational performance by recording, monitoring, reporting and integrating health and safety program feedback and data.
  • Support employee and organizational excellence in health and safety.

_Health and Safety Program Implementation_

  • Work collaboratively with others to ensure all aspects of the health and safety program are current and effectively communicated throughout the company.
  • Advise employees, supervisors, and committees/representatives on health and safety program policies and procedures and on legislation.
  • Support program implementation through preventive (e.g. inspections, training) and corrective (e.g. investigation, injury management) activities.
  • In collaboration with committees/representatives, supervisors and employees, corporate safety and others, evaluate and update hazard assessments, training requirements, safe work practices and safe job procedures, etc.
  • Collaborate with others to identify and address gaps in the health and safety program and in its implementation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete information related to health and safety program implementation (e.g. required documentation, records, reports and statistics).

_Compliance_

  • Maintain sound working knowledge of current and relevant health and safety legislation, standards and requirements.
  • Advise employees and supervisors on health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Monitor compliance with the company's health and safety program and with relevant legislation.
  • Work collaboratively to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • As required, cooperate with occupational health and safety officers and others to monitor compliance and correct noncompliance.

_Audits and Inspections_

  • Conduct and document routine safety "miniaudits" and workplace inspections at each assigned location.
  • Maintain auditor certifications by attending training and successfully completing examinations as required.
  • Conduct annual internal certification audits (e.g. certificate of recognition, injury management, etc.).
  • Prepare and submit audit documentation in accordance with standards.
  • Support and help coordinate annual external certification audits (e.g. certificate of recognition, injury management).

_Health and Safety Training_

  • Develop and deliver classroom, online and handson health and safety training to Brandt's standards, and to accepted instructional standards for adult learners and on selected topics (e.g. forklift operation, overhead crane operation, hazard assessment, etc.).
  • Develop and administer instructionally sound evaluations (tests, quizzes, scenarios, etc.) to measure trainees' acquisition and retention of course and program content.
  • Schedule training delivery in collaboration with corporate training staff, location supervisors and others.
  • Maintain an uptodate electronic and hardcopy catalogue of program materials including course outlines and descriptions.
  • Utilize various systems and technology in the development and delivery of training materials.
  • Document and report trainee evaluation scores and attendance, and distribute certificates to trainees.

_Continuous Improvement_

  • Participate in, monitor and report progress on health and safety related initiatives (e.g. injury reduction, program updates, etc.).
  • Ensure training materials and programs are kept current.
  • Attend external training sessions and achieve certification in new areas/topics as required.

_Employee & Organizational Support_

  • Support efforts to analyse and respond to organizational needs.
  • Ensure communications and presentations meet current corporate brand guidelines.
  • Meet other internal and external standards and requirements.

Required Skills

  • Completion of or evidence of working towards a postsecondary credential in the area of health and safety (e.g. certificate, diploma or degree from an accredited postsecondary institution).
  • Achievement of or evidence of working towards the Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP) designation or other professional health and safety designation.
Required Experience

  • Has a minimum of three years experience in a health and safety role at the organizational level. Equivalencies will be considered.
