Job Description:


Lighting Artists are the last bastion of the CG team, handing out the carefully crafted pixels to the compositors by enhancing the atmosphere, shape, and mood of a CG scene. They observe, replicate, and craft beautiful lighting.


They collaborate with CG & Lighting Supervisors to determine the best approaches to solving CG challenges, find creative and technical solutions and develop the final look.


  • Immediate Supervisor: Lighting Supervisor
  • Works closely with: Other CG Artists, CG Supervisors, Department Managers, and Compositing Artists

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a FOLKS artist

  • Pursues the highest quality and pushes to create the most engaging images
  • Works successfully as part of a team, seeks collaboration opportunities
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and communicates to meet production needs
  • Takes part in creative discussions and actively participates in dailies
  • Addresses notes and keeps the end goal in mind while iterating on the work
  • Stays flexible and adaptable with the ability to work within a set workflow as well as having the creativity and problemsolving skills to work around issues

As a Lighting Artist

  • Assembles lighting scenes using elements from upstream departments, deals with complexity
  • Matches shot lighting to plates and references, creates original and appealing lighting for full CG content
  • Creates lighting setups in collaboration with supervisors, leads, and other team members
  • Performs quality control on shots before they are submitted for review, ensuring all technical and artistic standards are met
  • Solves common optimization issues, refers to documentation and established workflows

Qualifications:


Requirements:


  • 3+ years' experience on feature films, series or animated features
  • Experience with shot and asset look development
  • Real world understanding of natural, artificial, and cinema lighting

Desirable

  • Experience in scripting, preferably Python and VEX, is a plus
