This role will provide support to the Director, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and for work conducted on behalf of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team. The role will integrate information from multiple sources that supports the coordination of events, planning, and strategic thinking for these teams as it relates to Indigenous customers and teammates. The work undertaken will provide support in the area related to staff recruitment and retention by working with all teammates in building knowledge, understanding and cultural confidence as it applies to Indigenous teammates, customers, suppliers and partners.

This position requires an individual who is detail orientated and a creative thinker with strong facilitation and planning skills. It requires a strong understanding from either lived experience or work experience that has the support and recommendation from Indigenous People, that speaks to an understanding of the diverse experience of Indigenous People in this country. This includes the history, their contributions, the systemic and racist challenges from the past to present day, understanding of Treaties and how that knowledge can guide our work and appreciation for the cultural and worldview of many Indigenous People.

Job Description

  • Lead internal working group to define and champion a holistic approach for a path towards reconciliation. 
  • Continue to engage and collaborate with Indigenous teammates by holding focused Sharing Circles and encouraging Indigenous voices in creating a sustainment plan.
  • Recommend education, awareness and support for all teammates to build knowledge and cultural confidence and commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Recommend and implement leadership education to build deep understanding and awareness of Indigenous history, culture and barriers to inclusion of Indigenous Peoples. This would include the development of protocols and briefings towards a framework for meaningful partnerships.
  • Recommend and implement training and support for leaders to build inter-cultural competency. 
  • Complete Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) assessment.
  • Identify partnership opportunities with Indigenous suppliers and organizations. 
  • Collaborate with Community Investment team to establish partnership opportunities with Indigenous communities and organizations. 
  • Collaborates across Talent Acquisition teams and Human Resources to develop recruitment and retention solutions and programs for Indigenous talent. This could include career development and advancement programs, identification of barriers, engagement opportunities and recruitment plan to increase representation through partnerships and programs. 
  • Develop an engagement and support strategy to strengthen our community relationships.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on the Indigenous talent communities. 

    • Job Requirements

  • A related undergraduate degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, anti-racism and contributing to an inclusive workplace environment
  • Experience in the development and delivery of processes, tools and programs
  • Experience in facilitation and delivering training
  • Experience in retail an asset
  • Proven writing and communication skills in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and anti-racism
  • Proven capacity for independent work

    • Preferred:

  • Project management experience including supporting other teammates 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Zoom, SharePoint and Outlook
  • Bilingual (French and English) 
  • Indigenous Language Speaker and/or Indigenous cultural knowledge
  • Experience with community engagement and community development approaches specific to Indigenous populations
