We are currently seeking a talented professional to join our JDI Finance team and showcase these talents in the role of Project Accountant . As the successful applicant for this opportunity, you will be located at Irving Shipbuilding in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, focused on our Shipbuilding Companies.

Irving Shipbuilding  is in the business of building and repairing vessels. The Company’s primary site, the Halifax Shipyard has been at the forefront of Canadian shipbuilding for 130 years. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defense as part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, as well as the Canadian Coast Guard. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, and Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) Designation
  • Minimum 5 years of  post-designation experience  in accounting and reporting.
  • Excellent financial acumen, operational understanding and a detailed ‘hands on’ approach.
  • Continuous Improvement mindset.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • JD Edwards, Cognos, Alteryx and Tableau experience considered an asset.
  • Shipbuilding or large project experience considered an asset.
  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation of various financial reports needed by the business for internal customers.
  • Analyze and monitor financial results and variance analysis on large projects.
  • Coordinate with other departments in managing consistent information flow.
  • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required.
  • Continuous improvement Projects
  • Ability to be flexible, effectively manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work as a team.
  • Coordinate with the billing team for appropriate program claims for Canada
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skill, especially Excel, is a necessity.
  • The successful applicant must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Canadian Government Security clearance.
