DESCRIPTION
:Under the direction of the Program Manager or delegate, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is accountable to the public and responsible for ensuring that practice and conduct meets legislative requirements and the standards of the profession, as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. RPNs’ practice will also comply with Kingston General Hospital’s policies and procedures. The RPN autonomously provides care within a full scope of practice as outlined in the College of Nursing Standards of Practice
Within this role the RPN is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Patient/Family Care – The RPN, as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and using the best available evidence, will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing care delivered to moderately acute/complex patients and families with predictable outcomes, identifying expected outcomes of specific interventions and modifying the plan of care, accordingly.
Team Relationships - The RPN is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team who collaborates with all team members about patient needs.

Quality Improvement - The RPN is involved in quality improvement initiatives, to meet the needs of our patients, families and groups.
Professional Development/Accountability - The RPN is responsible and accountable to identify and respond to personal professional development needs and opportunities.
Organizational Responsibilities - The RPN supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of the organization.
