DNV GL - Energy is seeking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team that is growing rapidly. Our team is comprised of highly skilled electrical engineers performing owner’s engineering, preliminary design, interconnection services, technical due diligence for new construction and repowering, and construction monitoring for the wind, solar PV, and energy storage industries.


This person will perform a wide variety of technical tasks applying experience and training in electrical power systems, electronics, controls and instrumentation in support of the design, development and construction of renewable energy projects.

    This position could be based in any of the following offices Toronto, ON; Montreal, QC or Calgary, AB

    Tasks May Include

  • Inspect new construction and operational renewable energy projects and electrical facilities including utility scale, commercial/industrial, and residential portfolios
  • Perform or review power system studies such as grounding, reactive power, cable ampacity using computer software and other methods, specify and procure materials and equipment
  • Review electrical designs and interconnection contracts and studies
  • Prepare reports of reviews, inspections and installations
  • Prepare drawings and plans using AutoCAD or other common drawing programs
  • Operate general electrical and electronics test equipment
  • Provide training in electrical safety and procedures

  • The ideal candidate will have a mix of electrical and electronics expertise, including in some or all of the following:

  • Power generation, distribution, substations, and transmission
  • Electronic control and monitoring systems
  • Inspection and commissioning of low and medium voltage plants or systems
  • Power electronics converters and drives
  • Electrical system construction including distribution, substation, and transmission systems
  • Electrical and construction safety including training and requirements; and
  • Instruments, data loggers, and general and specialized test equipment.

  • The Electrical Engineer will enjoy a wide variety of field and analytical work including in-depth work in the full spectrum of electric power systems, with frequent interaction with experts from the related solar, turbine, energy analysis, environmental, and civil engineering groups.

    Position Qualifications

    Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 1 year of experience directly working on renewable energy (wind, solar, energy storage, transmission, power electronics) projects
  • Willingness and ability to participate in up to 25% domestic travel (US and Canada), and must also be able to travel internationally. Typical travel burden may be lower, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Must have a proven HSE mindset, be able to use common construction personal protective equipment, walk over uneven terrain, climb ladders
  • Valid drivers license is required
  • Strong writing and communication skills for report writing, communication of technical concepts to internal and external clients is a must
  • Strong verbal English communication skills

  • Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience performing electrical power systems studies
  • NABCEP certification
  • OSHA 10 hour or equivalent
