AHS is currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse in Public Health to join the Health team. Your role will focus on general public health nursing responsibilities such as immunizations in well-child clinics, adult clinics, schools, influenza, and other mass immunization programs. Your role will be integral to the ongoing surveillance, follow-up and preventative management to the Communicable Disease Control program. This position includes maternal and child health services which provide strength-based anticipatory guidance, home and clinic visits, prenatal and postnatal programs, breastfeeding support, screening and referrals, and advocacy. To be successful you will be self-motivated, organized with excellent time management skills. Building on your nursing experience, you demonstrate comfort with decision-making, counselling, teaching, and strong communication skills both written and oral. You will have a proven ability to work independently, as well as positively, effectively, and cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).Additional Required Qualifications:
Access to a vehicle in good repair for work-related travel.Must be able to do chest compressions and be able to lift 15kg.Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) years’ experience within the last five (5) years in Public Health Nursing, including infant, child and adult immunization and maternal / child assessments. Other skills & experience relevant to Public Health may be considered.One (1) years’ experience with electronic charting (i.e. Meditech).Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred, however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered.
