Overview of Opportunity to Join a Team Made for Caring

Closing the Gap is assembling a COVID-19 response team comprised of PSW’s, Health Care Aids, Nurses and Therapists to provide compassionate support and resources to Long Term Care and Retirement Homes who are experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak. We are committed to making a difference in the lives of seniors during the COVID-19 crisis in some of the most hard-hit locations and are looking for a skilled team of health care providers to help those who need it most. This opportunity is open to all certified PSW providers (or nursing students, internationally trained nurses/physicians) who have the availability to work all assigned shifts comprised of evenings, overnights, weekends, days, and holidays for the duration of their six-month contract.

Generous salaried compensation and a contract completion bonus are being offered to recognize that this important work is required to keep our seniors safe. For new PSW Graduates you may also be eligible for an additional $5,000 bonus* through the PSW Return of Service Initiative.

Closing the Gap will ensure that every team member has the necessary Personal Protective Equipment

(PPE) and training required to deliver high quality care in a safe manner.

Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must possess Personal Support Worker certification, (but, also open to nursing students and, internationally trained nurses or physicians);
  • Ability to travel across GTA to various locations throughout the six-month contract. CTG will attempt to assign PSW’s to locations that are geographically close to their homes when, and where possible;
  • Prior experience working in a Long-Term Care/Retirement home setting would be beneficial however not required;
  • Outstanding focus and understanding of patient safety;
  • Exemplary skills in delivering high-quality patient care in a variety of settings;
  • A proven track record of being accountable for multiple deliverables, reporting and high- quality performance;
  • Experience in independent problem solving while recognizing when support from peers and supervisors is required.
  • Your Role will Require:

  • Developing respectful working relationships with patients and their families to meet care needs;
  • Being respectful of the dignity and individuality of each patient;
  • Providing personal care to meet the physical, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of each patient;
  • Observing, assessing, and reporting changes in patients’ behaviors and activities;
  • Participating in multidisciplinary teamwork;
  • Ongoing adherence to all COVID-19 protocols in place at Long Term Care or Retirement Home where PSW services are being provided. Safe use of all required PPE as directed by location management/ and Closing the Gap Health and Safety Team;
  • Regular access to a mobile device that is capable of receiving text messages to ensure you can receive messages regarding shift assignments/changes;
  • Physical lifting abilities.
  • Compensation & Bonus:

  • Weekly salary of $1,050.00 based on work week of 37.5 hours;
  • Additional $2.00/hour shift premium for evening/overnight/weekend shifts (in addition to set weekly salary above);
  • Any additional hours paid at $28.00 per hour. (Overtime premiums as applicable with CTG’s two-week averaging agreement);
  • Paid at 1.5 times daily rate for any statutory holidays required to work (in accordance with Employment Standards Act);
  • Fixed daily travel and mobile device stipend of $10.00/day to assist with any applicable costs.
  • A contract completion bonus at end of six-month contract. To be eligible you must complete all shifts for which you are scheduled for a 6-month period.

  • When not deployed, you can take advantage of one of CTG’s many training and education programs. We have a partnership with the Michener Institute and the University of Toronto and offer several in-house education programs to further develop and grow the professional skills of our valuable PSW team.
