Role Overview
McElhanney Ltd. has an opportunity for a Junior Bridge CAD Technician to join our team in Vancouver, Victoria or Kamloops office. This role is ideal for someone who has 0-2 years of experience and is looking to join an experienced team of CAD operators and technologists. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career and learn new skills while working on challenging bridge projects. The successful candidate will be working on a wide variety of bridge design projects, including but not limited to replacement and rehabilitation of existing highway bridges, culvert structures, and long span bridges. The ideal individual will have experience with solid 3D modelling and/or BIM modeling. Experience with Civil 3D, Revit, InfraWorks, Navisworks, MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Tekla would be an asset.

Responsibilities

Production of preliminary and detailed design drawings for steel and concrete bridges including connections and reinforcement details for wide variety of projects under the supervision of Project Engineers and Senior CAD staff

Translate preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering plans according to client-specific standards, using primarily AutoCAD, as well as other technical software as needed

Coordinating project drawings and design models with project managers, engineers, and CAD staff

Coordinate with other drafting and engineering team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved

Collaborate with other disciplines both internally and externally

Other duties as required.

Requirements

Certificate or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and less than 5 years of experience

Registration as an A.Sc.T. or other technical accreditations is an asset

Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Software is essential

Candidates with Civil 3D experience preferred

Experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, especially Revit and InfraWorks, would be an asset

Experience with bridge design/drafting and BC MoTI standards, and an understanding of highway geometric design is an asset

Detailing experience according to the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code CSA-S6-14 and the BC MoTI supplement to CSA S6-14 would be an asset

Excellent attention to detail with a drive for excellence

Ability to use sound decision making skills to arrive at solutions to problems

Desire / eagerness to learn and grow professionally

Willingness to share knowledge with others

Effective verbal and written communication skills are a must

Ability to work without supervision as well as within a busy and close-knit team environment.
