What will you do?

  • Responsible for managing disability claims to resolution in a proactive manner. This includes determining if insured employees are eligible for disability benefits through to implementing the right interventions to support recovery and return to work for approved claims as early as it is safe to do so.
  • Build strong relationships with our clients; employers and their employees
  • Assess claims for benefit entitlement by reviewing contractual, medical, functional and occupational information - Sources include, but are not limited to, Independent Medical Evaluations, Functional Capacity Evaluations, Ergonomic assessments, medical consultant opinions, Rehabilitation Consultant resources, and consulting Mental Health Experts
  • Work collaboratively with insured employees, clients, lawyers, health care practitioners and other stakeholders to obtain information, provide claim status, create action plans and provide verbal and written decisions while maintaining confidentiality and privacy
  • Conduct telephone interviews to obtain information to develop and maintain outcome-focused case management plans to help employees return to work
  • Identify and assess medical and non-medical influencing factors, functional capability, restrictions and limitations
  • Participate in face to face client meetings
  • Engage in continuous learning about disability practices and tools
  • What do you need to succeed?

  • University degree completed or related experience
  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills with a passion for solving challenging situations
  • Customer service focus; demonstrating empathy, with outstanding communication and listening skills
  • Ability to prioritize work items in order to meet client service standards and Sun Life best practice guidelines
  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast paced environment while maintaining attention to detail with complex claims and contracts
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and excellent organization skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions, supported by strong rationale
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes
  • Previous disability management experience
  • Ability to work in a paperless environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Typing skills and ability to be a strong functional user of various computer based programs
  • Collaborative Team Player
  • LOMA and/or CDMP certification would be an asset
  • *Selected candidates will be required to take a written and oral language test to evaluate English and French language proficiency
