ADI’s Wireless Systems Group (WSG) is seeking a systems integration engineer with a firm background in embedded software development.

ADI develops market leading 5G radio transceiver technology in form of silicon devices such as the ADRV9026. Based on those, the WSG group develops and maintains reference solutions such as radio heads compatible with the O-RAN standard. The successful candidate will work closely with the systems architects, the hardware, software and FPGA teams to specify, build, integrate and maintain both radio sub-systems and complete radio reference designs that span from the optical interface right out to the antenna. The implementation of such systems will use state-of-the-art FPGAs as well as ASICs.

The area of work includes many aspects of the system development process, such as planning, design, sourcing, debugging/test, system integration, customization and documentation. The focus hereby will always lie on the embedded software aspects. However, in order to write suitable embedded code, a good practical understanding of the associated hardware will be required. The successful candidate will work closely with ADI’s product development teams who will provide the required technical assistance.

Our projects are based on the entire range of ADI’s market leading RF, mixed signal and power products, but will also include 3GPP Low PHY implementations from third parties which will need to be integrated.

The role will include collaboration with product teams at other ADI sites as well as with external partners and customers, either of which may require occasional travel.


  • Develop a solid understanding of the customer’s requirements and learn about the existing systems operation through a combination of self-directed learning and research as well as close collaboration with colleagues and teams within ADI.
  • Have a sense of ownership of system problem statements and work in a team to propose solutions for both, hard- and software.
  • Upon an agreed technical solution: Deliver the embedded software part, provide test strategies and adhere to all best practices wrt. coding standards, documentation etc.
  • Work with systems architects and other internal stakeholders on system definition (e.g. the split between hard- and software) – with an emphasis on embedded software requirements.
  • Develop software to complement and control all components of the radio chain: from the optical interface to the antenna. Work in a team with hardware, software, FPGA developers and external partners
  • Assist the development of test beds for the radio reference design or sub-system
  • Support interoperability testing between radio units and digital units from third parties
  • Interface to external partners and customers
  • Over time, lead a group of software engineers.
  • The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

    Candidate Credentials

    Technical, required:

  • Excellent working knowledge of C, C++, Python, C# or equivalent programming language.
  • Detailed experience with true embedded processing (bare metal, RTOS, Linux, etc.).
  • Very good knowledge on embedded Linux, for instance in the area of software drivers, memory management and interface techniques between hardware / software on FPGAs.
  • 3 to 5 years of working related experience in an applications or systems development role
  • Technical, beneficial:

  • Experience with 3GPP Low PHY implementations
  • Some knowledge in 3GPP measurements and RF lab experience
  • Experience with remote radio head systems
  • Personal, required:

  • An enquiring flexible attitude to work and learning
    Ability to work independently and research a problem statement to find the best solution.
  • Good team player capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
