INTRO

A Millwright is responsible to supply mechanical trade services by troubleshooting, repair, installation and fabrication of mechanical equipment, as well as repair, modification and installations of new and existing structures throughout the site to support the day-to-day operation of CNL industrial equipment and to ensure customer commitments are met.

DUTIES

  • Perform routine and non-routine preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure consistent and safe operation of CNL mechanical equipment. (Eg. Pumps, compressors, various types of precision machining equipment, gear boxes, hydraulic units). Troubleshoot CNL mechanical equipment to ensure safe operation and continuity of production.
  • Read and interpret drawings, work packages and reference materials to ensure that the scope of a given job is fully understood and that all aspects of the job have been considered and comply with AECL regulations and all applicable code's.
  • Consistently document maintenance activities and comprehensive work packages by completing all pertinent paper work such as Avantis job cards, comprehensive work packages etc. to ensure that an accurate maintenance history is available for review and or audit purposes
  • Construct, fabricate, install and or decommission mechanical systems and structures to support the R&D program as well as the Decommissioning branch.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal and AECL regulations in order to provide a safe and efficient working environment. Attend monthly safety meetings and immediately report any safety concerns and/or infractions. Apply Event Free Tools and Pre-Job Brief information throughout the execution of assigned work and models this behavior and knowledge to others.
  • Assist in the training, coaching and mentoring of apprentices and co-op students in safe workshop practices and procedures including work planning, assisting and development of skills by demonstrating techniques, describing suitable methods. Monitor, assess and correct work performance, discuss problems and improvements and report progress to supervisor and identify further training needs.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as an Industrial Mechanic/Millwright typically acquired through the completion of the required 8000-hour apprenticeship. 
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings specific to Millwrights in order to have a thorough understanding of the scope of the job in question
  • Knowledge of internal structural check lists, maintenance records, inspection processes as well as being familiar with all applicable codes and standards such as CSA 47.1/W59, CSA N285, Z-299 Quality Assurance levels and Underwriter’s Laboratory codes, in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools as well as precision measuring and leveling equipment.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to be able to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines.
