ACADEMIC PEDIATRIC SURGEON
McMaster University, Department of Surgery, in conjunction with McMaster Children’s Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences, is seeking an academic pediatric surgeon. The Hamilton Pediatric Surgery Program serves a catchment area of more than 2.3 million residents. The regional service also provides tertiary and quaternary level care to patients from other regions of the province and plays an essential role in the support of other regional programs including the pediatric trauma and neonatal programs. The regional pediatric surgery service together with the Department of Surgery, McMaster University has a North America-accredited pediatric surgery fellowship training program with full involvement in undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education programs.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate competence in the contemporary management of the full spectrum of pediatric surgery appropriate for an academic children’s hospital centre and will be expected to show evidence of interpersonal and collaborative skills and initiative to further advance the clinical and academic productivity of the regional pediatric surgery service. As research will be an integral component of this position, the successful candidate should hold a graduate degree and ideally would have an active research program. A commitment and demonstrated interest in surgical education at all levels is essential, as well as active participation in research programs and academic initiatives of the pediatric surgery service. A full time Appointment at the appropriate level in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University will be available to the successful applicant. In addition, there are possible leadership opportunities for a candidate with a track record of experience.
Applicants should have Certification in Pediatric Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
