Are you a self-starter who enjoys taking ownership while seeing your projects and initiatives result in positive outcomes? Our Site Remediation group is accountable for the management of all site remediation projects for our Petro-Canada operating and non-operating retail and wholesale sites. In this role, you will use your strong technical and project management skills to manage over 50 environmental/remediation projects annually by working closely with our third-party consultants, contractors, governing bodies and onsite teams.
You will use your expertise to : Lead all aspects of interactions with TSSA, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks as required Review, evaluate, approve and monitor execution of proposals from consultants and contractors for monitoring/sampling, environmental site assessments, remedial excavations, risk assessments, and in-situ remediation Establish annual expense budgets at the project and territory level as well as weekly updates on the latest estimates of these two budget levels Manage project slate to meet project, territory, and Site Remediation department level economics and scheduling Understand our priorities, policies and procedures and cascade these to multiple Service Providers; measure supplier performance /compliance against these criteria and course correct as needed Direct our consultants and contractors, and manage communication with Municipalities regarding the delivery of permits, notifications, etc. Work directly with our legal department to respond to third party inquiries, and draft relevant correspondence and agreements Provide technical advice and support to other Business Units within Suncor on environmental issues Communicate/negotiate with impacted 3rd parties Attend and participate in Construction and Site Remediation kick-off meetings and provide guidance on management of projects with remediation Participate in safety trainings; communicate/manage our safety expectations with our preferred suppliers and conduct safety audits

Must-haves (minimum requirements): 10 years of experience in a similar role dealing with Environmental Regulators Experience in dealing with hydrocarbon contamination and a working knowledge of Ontario environmental regulations and guidelines A Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Hydro-Geology, Geology, Engineering, or a related discipline Proven project management skills to oversee the work of dynamic teams Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others to ensure work is executed in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner Alignment with our : safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity
Preference for: Related experience in the retail or wholesale gas industry A Professional Geoscientist or Engineer
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information: You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs Travel within Ontario to visit project sites (~2 overnights/month) A company car will be provided for travel We require qualified and safety-focused employees for business-critical roles that maintain our commitment to operational excellence and reliable operations.
