Position Summary:

The LMS Administrator/Instructional Designer will serve a dual role with responsibilities both in learning management and instructional design. The role will work with internal managers and subject matter experts by assessing learning needs, determining learning goals, and implementing digital learning solutions.

In the area of learning management, this role will identify learning management needs (i.e. curricula, assignments, reports, etc.) and recommend and create appropriate structures in the Johnston Equipment Learning Management System. As an instructional designer, the role will collaborate with internal subject matter experts to conceptualize and design engaging, creative, and interactive digital learning solutions.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a self-starter, able to work independently, and look for ways to continuously improve our employee’s engagement and learning & development experience. You will need solid knowledge and proven experience administering Learning Management Systems, as well as, adult learning principles and content design.

LMS Administration

  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process and quality improvements, providing feedback on usage, issues, and suggested enhancements as the Learning Management System Subject-Matter-Expert (SME)
  • Manage day-to-day operation of the Learning Management System
  • Assist system troubleshooting and resolution
  • Primary interface with Learning Management System vendor technical support team
  • Manage user management including managing permissions, creation of user groups and learning cohorts, password reset, and access issues
  • Manage course enrollments and waitlist registrations
  • Content management and assignment including uploading SCORM and non-SCORM content, create curriculums and learning plans based on prerequisites, job role, compliance requirements
  • Learning activity/campaign set-up, assignment, and administration
  • Data management

  • Perform data audits and correct the data to ensure accuracy including deactivating activities
  • Reporting and analytics
  • Develops and maintains system support documentation (e.g. access instructions, job aids, quick start guides)
  • Instructional Design

  • Leverage adult learning and instructional design theories to develop training modules
  • Apply instructional design theories during internal customer consultations to determine the need, analyze requirements and develop training content
  • Leverage authoring tools to develop SCORM based training modules with knowledge checks and evaluations
  • Use instructional design principles to assist in the evaluation of content submitted for upload to the LMS
  • Develop and establish course format standards to ensure a consistent look and feel across the LMS platform is maintained.
  • What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Post-secondary degree in Adult Education or Instructional Design, CTDP designation, or an equivalent combination of education and training experience
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in Instructional Design, focused on online learning and administering Learning Management System
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in adult education, training/development, or academic teaching required
  • Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools, preferably Articulate 360
  • Strong interpersonal and consultation skills with the ability to develop and maintain key internal and external business relationships
  • Ability to act as the Learning Management System SME, including providing recommendations on best practices on Learning Management System functionality
  • Working knowledge of course design and development models and concepts
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Fluent in verbal and written English
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts in non-technical terms
