JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Web Applications is responsible for leading and implementing enhanced IT customer experience initiatives across a portfolio of web, mobile and digital technology channels. The Manager oversees the strategic development and innovation of Hydro Ottawa’s digital assets: corporate websites, self-service portal, intranet, mobile application, IT customer relationship management and digital technology programs through a customer focused lens. The Manager is responsible for utilizing deep industry knowledge and skill expertise such that they are viewed both internally and externally as subject matter experts. This role acts as the lead liaison with senior business stakeholders to develop high level roadmaps, define requirements/scope, aid in the formulation of business cases, manage internal/external resources and be accountable for successful project delivery.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and collaborate with business stakeholders to improve the quality, nature and power of interactions between the customer and the organization across the lifecycle of sales, marketing and service at each and every touch point.
  • Lead innovation efforts through rapid design, prototyping and launch of new web and mobile experiences, translating insights from design-led methods into offerings and technologies that further our digital strategy and improve customer engagement
  • Manage an application, software development unit and/or portfolio of applications and ensures system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and execution of project plans; ensures scope, schedule and budget are established for projects and assignments.
  • Establish prioritized road maps, backed by business-driven research and analyses. Build consensus among stakeholders by defining a shared vision.
  • Participate in the development of business and/or IT vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, unit or portfolio.
  • Ensure absolute alignment with internal Cyber Security practices to safeguard sensitive information and compliance with privacy laws.
  • Assist in team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work; leveraging organizational resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring and developing team members.
  • Implement best practice agile development processes to enable rapid development and achieve a high level of performance, quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Manage an eco-system of partners to control costs, drive service excellence and mitigate risks to gain increased value from vendor services.
  • Lead efforts to research, evaluate, select and implement new and emerging technologies to enhance application, unit or portfolio.
  • Provide ongoing support and monitoring of critical applications to perpetuate business continuity and ensure service level agreements are met.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or a related field; or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a portfolio of web, mobile and digital technology.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience leading customer experience and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience crafting and delivering Digital Strategy at the corporate or business unit level.
  • Ability to understand digital trends and utilize thought leadership to influence evolution of digital assets and online experience.
  • Expertise in project management and the delivery of complex initiatives.
  • Technically savvy with a strong understanding of agile software development for mobile applications and cloud solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize feature development and releases based on customer needs, resource availability, and the business case.
  • Experience working with CRM, Content Management and Document Management systems.
  • Experience working with API driven development and multiple web and mobile technologies (PHP, JavaScript, node.js, Nginx etc.).
  • Sound knowledge of databases, PL/SQL and system integration using service oriented architectures (SOA).
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff to deliver commitments on-time and on-budget.
  • Ability to interface with senior executives, and to create compelling presentations and analyses in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • English language skills essential, both oral and written
  • Bilingualism (French/English) or other languages considered an asset
