Are you looking for a dynamic role in a growing company, where you can build your career?

Do you want to work every day with a positive, energetic team that takes pride in succeeding together?

If so, we’re Gro-Bark in Caledon, and we want to hear from you.

GroBark is a subsidiary of Walker Environmental, a division of Walker Industries. We supply innovative, sustainably sourced mulches and bulk soils to nurseries, landscape supply yards and landscapers across much of Ontario. We are located in Caledon at the Georgetown and Brampton borders, with multiple sites in the areas where we source and process materials.

We satisfy customers with tailor-made products according to their specifications, a strong logistics network, and a committed team that cares about our products, customers, and company.

You will operate the soil blending plant, combining various materials according to recipes you receive, in line with production schedules given to you each day by the Operations Manager or Dispatcher. You will direct the work of a small team in order to expedite production.

Attention to detail will be crucial in this role, because the recipes you execute require precision. You will focus on quality, running QA tests on mixes and blends you produce. As you become familiar with the materials involved, you will learn how to forecast what environmental factors will affect our process, troubleshoot, and adapt accordingly. When plans change, your resilience and adaptability will serve you well.

  • Ensure monitoring and supervision of a team of equipment operators and labourers.
  • Manage the unloading and reloading of soil amendments efficiently, while maximizing cost effectiveness.
  • Follow pre-determined recipes, in line with production schedules.
  • Blend the ingredients using an automated system, and a computer interface (Mix-Pro).
  • Coordinate loading bulk ingredients with the loader operator.
  • QA tests and volume confirmations on mixes, blends and raw materials.
  • Calibration of mix line hoppers, toting line and equipment.
  • Efficient inventory management and planning.
  • Co-ordinate with the Growing Media team for inventory and production.
  • This is a full time position and the working hours will vary seasonally. In the summer, you will work 6am – 5pm. In the winter, you will work 7am to 4pm. Occasionally you may work Saturdays in the summer, and you will be paid overtime for working more than 44 hours. The Company also offers industry leading benefits and a pension plan.

  • Diploma/degree and/or experience in science, technology or business operations preferred.
  • Experience working in a high-pressure or fast paced role.
  • Experience working with computers to enter data and run programs (Windows, Microsoft Excel).
  • Able to lift 50lbs.
  • Experience directing a small team.
  • Advanced degree of initiative and judgment in order to organize, prioritize and supervise daily operations.
  • Able to work with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems, at times, technical in nature.
  • Experience with Oracle is a strong asset.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment is preferred.
