The Office of Sustainability is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Manager, Sustainability Partnerships and Engagement .

Reporting to the Director, Sustainability Reporting & Engagement, the Manager, Sustainability Partnerships and Engagement integrates sustainability into the programs and practices of diverse academic and support units across campus and create multiple centres of sustainability excellence.
The Manager has experience with, and an advanced understanding of experiential learning, research methods and scholarship, demonstrated experience in productively engaging diverse stakeholders and building lasting partnerships, and a strong understanding of sustainability from diverse disciplinary perspectives.
Working at the intersection of research and practice, the Manager, Partnerships and Engagement creates connections between faculty, students, staff and community partners to enrich and expand experiential learning in sustainability. Additionally, the manager promotes UCalgary as a community hub for sustainability learning through sustainability focused dialogue, narratives, and workshops.
The Manager leads a team of 5 or more sustainability professionals and interns and has full management responsibility including recruitment, hiring, annual goal setting, recognition and performance management.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to): Direct, motivate and manage the activities of staff and student interns, including recruitment and hiring, development of annual work plans, and ongoing performance management. Ensure continuous development of staff skills and abilities to fulfill annual portfolio commitments. Reports to staff demonstrate a high degree of initiative, professionalism and respect in the workplace; their work is aligned with a multi-year strategy for advancement of sustainability scholarship and experience on campus and in the community; they have the tools and supports needed to carry out their roles and responsibilities; and they demonstrate continuous development and improvement as individuals and as a team. Leadership demonstrated in the pursuit of external funding to support the expansion of experiential learning and other sustainability programming. Community partners engaged as appropriate in proposals and collaborative opportunities. Develop effective governance protocols for funding and manage grants and related reporting requirements. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to emerging and shifting priorities from within the Office of Sustainability and the institution. Other duties pertaining to the work of the Office of Sustainability that may arise from time to time. Annual business plans, work plans, business continuity plans, project budgets, and human resource responsibilities are completed in a timely manner in alignment with institutional policy and protocols. A robust Experiential Leaning (EL) multi-year action plan is in place and fully aligned with the priorities of the Office of Experiential Learning. Programs demonstrate growth in student, faculty, staff and community participation. Experiential Learning in sustainability (incl. Campus as a Learning Lab) is recognized as a signature University of Calgary experiential learning initiative. In collaboration with Sustainability Studies, develop and manage tools and resources to support Faculties in integrating sustainability to curriculum and research projects. Identify gaps and pursue opportunities to continuously improve supports offered to faculty members and the Academy. Through fellowship and grant programs and by working collaboratively with the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, support faculty initiatives to create new courses and programs and strive to help continuously build a culture of sustainability in education at the University of Calgary. Enable the growth and scaling of sustainability through transformative partnerships with groups and organizations on campus and in the community. Leverage these diverse partnerships to generate community dialogue on sustainability topics. University of Calgary is positioned externally as a leader in sustainability research and a collaborative partner in advancing sustainability on local, national and international scales. Sustainability is embedded into a diversity of community, speaker and panel events. The Office of Sustainability is recognized as a successful facilitator of meaningful and effective partnerships. Under the leadership of the Manager, Sustainability Partnerships and Engagement, the Sustainability Resource Centre is a vibrant hub for student leadership and collaboration, and a recognized go-to resource for engaging in high quality student and experiential learning programs, information on campus sustainability, and resources on education and research in sustainability.
Qualifications / Requirements: Master's degree that is relevant to sustainability, environmental science or other related field required. Research experience (e.g. dissertation, thesis or similar) required. At least five years of professional experience in sustainability in a post-secondary setting. Experience with and knowledge of practices related to experiential learning, research and pedagogy. Experience managing a campus as a learning/living lab initiative a strong asset. Three to five years' management experience required. High level of expertise and ability to be conversant across disciplines. Experience required in serving as a knowledgeable resource within the academy and among community partners. Possess knowledge of university culture and related academic procedures. Demonstrated understanding and in-depth knowledge of the research process required. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills, and the ability to engage a diverse audience with confidence in speaking and presenting in public, particularly in the context of sustainability and experiential learning Proven leadership and team building experience towards a common goal and developing strategies involving cross-functional teams. Engages, motivates, coaches, mentors, and challenges others to excel despite obstacles and challenging situations. Experience in a unionized environment an asset. Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills with the ability to nurture positive working relationships with a diversity of campus and community partners is required. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
