Responsibilities
Reporting to the Health Services Manager of the OR Department, the Surgical Operating Room (OR) Nurse is responsible for providing peri-operative patient care using the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills. The Nurse will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary surgical team.
He/she is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite and to promote the professional role and evaluate his/her own professional education and clinical practice standards. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The Nurse will practice using evidence based measures and outcomes and is a patient advocate who provides a link between the units and the Operating Room.
This individual must also work in compliance with the hospital code of conduct and the provisions of health and safety policies and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority, Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Nursing Practice.
