Purpose

Responsible for permitting and regulatory planning and coordination services as detailed below, under the direction of the Director – Project Planning and Permitting primarily for the Business Development department’s new growth, development projects, as needed. The purpose of the role is to provide coordination, management, administrative and expediting/efficiency assistance.

Accountabilities

Regulatory, planning, permitting and environmental review work:

  • Provide assistance to the Senior Manager – Project Planning and Project Planning/Permitting team for all regulatory, planning, permitting and environmental review work associated with the development, design and construction of renewable energy projects in Canada and United States, Communicate with various government agencies involved in regulatory and permitting work (email, letters, report submissions/review/summaries, conference calls, meetings),
  • Provide support and assistance to environmental consultants (document management, archive information, report submissions and review),
  • Review of regulations, program rules, reports, directives from government agencies (interpretation, application, summary),
  • Assist on all logistic and planning details for open houses and public meetings (vendor availability, facilities, advertising, press, etc.).
  • Understanding, interpretation, scoping and presentation of environmental science impacts of renewable energy projects:

  • Wetland delineation and impacts,
  • Flora and fauna studies and project development impacts,
  • Noise studies and impacts, shadow flicker studies, visual interpretation of development activities,
  • Species at risk (threatened, endangered) – jurisdictional differentiations, publicly-available reports,
  • Cultural heritage impacts from development projects,
  • Archaeological studies,
  • Decommissioning, restoration impact studies,
  • Public roads and infra-structure impacts,
  • Government agency interactions (transport, environment, natural resources, culture, energy, etc.)
  • Education and Experience

  • Must possess a college diploma or university degree in an applicable area of study (environmental science, regulatory and permitting practices),
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills are required,
  • Minimum three years post-secondary work experience in permitting and project coordination or project management role,
  • Ability to work within a fast pace working environment and to changing priorities,
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment,
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs,
  • Valid driver’s license,
  • Able and flexible to travel within Canada and the United States as needed.
