Located out of our Calgary office, the Customs Compliance Specialist will report to the Manager, Transportation and Logistics, Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC). This role will ensure that the requirements and business processes associated with cross-border movements function smoothly, while also ensuring that issues and risks are identified and managed efficiently. The customs compliance specialist is responsible for day-to-day compliance with customs classification and trade regulations. The specialist’s role is to ensure that Inter Pipeline adheres to all governmental regulations and laws for both, Import and Export activities to avoid risks that may result in fines and penalties to the organization. Qualifications: University degree, preferably business or STEM related (economics, accounting, engineering, businessProfessional designation in the logistics and supply chain field would be considered an asset Experience: The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience related to Customs compliance and should be a recognized Certified Customs Specialist in both Canada and the United States.) Skills: Excellent knowledge of CBSA requirements for processing Customs entriesVery good understanding of what is required in Customs audits and their follow-up to ensure all open issues are signed offStrong written and verbal communication skillsAnalytical skills, with strength in excel (pivot tables, graphs, charts) and data managementMotivated individual able to work independently and as a team player, in an environment that is constantly changing, and requires/demands flexibility to adapt to change Key Activities and Responsibilities Provide an overall assessment of Inter Pipelines customs needs and make recommendations. Upon approval of those recommendations, implement and manage the customs compliance function within Inter Pipeline.Assessing and make recommendations with respect to the engagement of third-party customs brokerage services.Work with various lines of businesses such as Tax, Finance, Logistics, and Engineering to identify root-cause analysis and corrective action for customs compliance related issues.Assist internal customers with inquiries relative to international shipping, customs requirements, and requests for informationBuild working relationships with key stakeholders and service providers to review custom broker standard procedures and develop internal best practices to ensure business process/systems align with external commercial and financial regulations.
