INTRO

The Corporate Reporting Specialist acts as a representative of the Program Management Office (PMO) and is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of processes, reports, methodologies, analytical tools, architectures and technologies to transform raw project / program data into meaningful and useful information to enable effective strategic, tactical and operational insights and decision making across CNL. They ensure compliance with PMO / CNL processes, procedures and standards, and client (AECL) reporting requirements.

As an individual contributor, executes complex and / or specialized technical work under general guidance such as:

  • Reporting, forecasting, analyzing, assessing and interpreting complex results and providing advice and recommendations;
  • Prioritizing deliverables ensuring all timelines are met according to defined timelines;
  • Recognizing critical issues and acting within appropriate parameters by interpreting standards;
  • Establishing and maintaining quality assurance standards;
  • Managing the project plans associated with multiple concurrent large-scope/complexity projects / programs;
  • Directs mission employees responsible for project / program reporting with a focus on achieving results such as:
  • Providing day-to-day oversight, guidance and issue resolution to mission(s) staff to deliver results in line with the PMO / CNL reporting requirements;
  • Ensuring quality of work performed; and
  • Ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operations.
  • DUTIES

    Corporate Reporting

  • Provides analytical support to the PMO in the areas of project / program performance management and financial reporting, including strategic planning, budget and forecast;
  • Compiles results and conducts initial analysis by collecting, organizing, assessing and manipulating data from internal and external sources to facilitate information and document management;
  • Performs supportive role for planning and financial management activities by preparing dynamic templates, compiling data and creating charts, documents and presentations targeted to audiences at various levels;
  • Provides oversight and guidance to CNL staff to ensure compliance with PMO / CNL project / program reporting requirements;
  • Develops, implements, and utilizes assessment techniques to ensure reporting-related services and work products are of good quality, timely, and responsive to program and client needs;
  • Escalates any significant reporting issues to the PMO and recommends appropriate actions to resolve the issues;
  • Supports the development of the Annual Program of Work & Budget (APWB), 5-Year and 10-Year Plans, compiling and providing project / program planning data input to the PMO and Corporate Planning organizations for CNL Management review and submission to the Client (AECL);
  • Coordinates the timely and accurate completion of month-end project / program reporting across all Missions;
  • Analyzes project / program data using various sources to verify accuracy and inputs data into the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) for management review and submission to the Client (AECL);
  • Continuously seeks and identifies opportunities for efficiency of systems, processes, tools, etc.; and
  • Develops and/or maintains training and associated documentation on reporting tools and templates, and provides training to CNL users on an as-needed basis.
  • Continuous Improvement / Innovation

  • Identifies and recommends improvements to any CNL-wide procedures that affects own work area;
  • Collaborates with others in the development of changes to work procedures utilizing innovative approaches;
  • May recommend policy improvements; and
  • Encourages / supports innovation among others.
  • Risks / Opportunities

  • Responds to situations to contain / mitigate short term risk in accordance with established processes, procedures and guidelines;
  • Errors in judgment pose some risk to the project / program / team increases; some checks and balances on work; and
  • Aware of emergency response processes and adheres to health and safety standards.
  • QUAIFICATIONS

  • University degree or college diploma from an accredited school in a field relevant to Project Management, Business Administration or other relevant field; and
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and/or industry certification in earned value management (EVMP, EVMD, EVMO) are considered an asset.
  • Experience

  • 5 – 10 years of increasing responsibility and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and
  • 3 – 5 years of leadership and / or supervisory experience, or the ability to motivate others to perform to expectations would be an asset.

  • Job/Industry Specific Knowledge

  • Strong familiarity with data preparation, processing, classification and forecasting;
  • Knowledge of earned value management principles, practices, tools and techniques;
  • Experienced in financial planning and analysis and internal financial management;
  • Strong understanding of data mining models, structures, theories, principles, and practices;
  • Knowledge of project management principles and processes;
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) software and tools;
  • Advanced technical skills with Microsoft Excel, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Sharepoint and PowerPoint; and
  • Working knowledge of COBRA, PCRS, Merlin, P6 and the Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
