Primary Responsibilities

HDR is seeking a Transportation Planner for our growing team. This individual will work with a dynamic team of transportation planning professionals on a variety of transportation planning projects including municipal environmental assessments, multi-modal transportation master plans, compete street studies and transit planning projects. The work will be centered in our downtown Toronto office; however, project delivery may be anywhere in Canada and the US.

In the role of Transportation Planner, we'll count on you to:

  • Collect, analyze, and visualize complex data sets
  • Prepare mapping to support projects using GIS and other graphic design software
  • Prepare technical reports and memos to support studies
  • Develop materials to support public information meetings (in person and virtual)
  • Assist on major transit/transportation studies, involving alternatives analysis, business case development, transportation system/network planning and operations
  • Performing other duties as needed
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Planning or related field
  • Relevant co-op experience in transportation/transit planning (provide samples of project work with application)
  • Familiarity with Municipal and Provincial Environmental Assessment legislation an asset
  • Familiarity with planning policies and guiding documents in the Greater Toronto Area an asset
  • Experience developing materials for public consumption an asset
  • A self-starter, comfortable working in a team environment
  • Passion for transit and transportation planning
  • Knowledge of GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, data collection methods and data analysis an asset
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process (MCEA), Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP), and relevant transportation/transit planning design guidance or standards an asset
  • Progressive and innovative approach to problem solving an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
