Title: Technical Writer Department:Information Technology Central Reports To:Vice President, Technology Applications Duration:6-month contract Purpose of the Job We are looking for a talented technical writer who is passionate about how software is developed and secured. The individual will create sophisticated technical documentation, guidelines, processes, and infographics on a variety of technical and information security topics. You will improve our new hire onboarding experiences and increase by translating complex data and information into simple, engaging educational materials that will empower and increase efficiency of staff while also achieving the company’s goals to be compliant with our frameworks. You’ll define and create standards that will elevate our copy, set the vision for content and drive cohesive narratives across multiple topics and themes. You are a savvy communicator with an impeccable ear for tone and voice, and the ability to scrutinize the unnecessary. You are focused on understanding employee processes, the goals of our technology governance frameworks (such as ITIL and NIST), and the content you create will guide employees to follow the best practices and achieve their intended outcomes. You’re also a natural when it comes to explaining technology in straight-forward non-technical ways. You understand your audience’s point of view and instinctively communicate with them on their terms. You understand that writing about technology is a balance of art and science. You have a firm grasp of technology and participate comfortably in technical conversations. Whether writing or speaking, you express yourself clearly and precisely whether it’s with software developers, infrastructure and operations, data experts, DevOps, or information security (you will be supporting multiple technology groups and managing content intersection points seamlessly). Main Activities: Create new written and (basic) visual/infographic content or update materials prepared by others Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing processes or product functionality; draft new/revised Standards and Guidelines based on a revisited content and information hierarchy that you will devise based on current best practices for a challenger bank (e.g., one source of content with live references between artifacts when necessary - no multiple versions of the same content) Based on existing content and requirements sessions with executive technology leaders, re-write the SDLC and align with the new ITIL framework, & secure SDLC changes Compile a Training approach, curriculum & materials by Tech role for onboarding new staff, levering Guideline documents Create in-depth user guides, FAQ’s, technical overviews Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and have the ability to gather information for a writing assignment from a variety of sources, including development, QA, UXD, and product management Proactively continue to build the foundation for all technical documentation, identify problem areas and contribute to their improvement Establish a unified voice across multiple artifacts and help shape our vision for voice and tone Ensure content adheres to a consistent style, tone, and approach Thoughtfully consider the best way to enhance your written work with multi-media content Review requirements, user stories, and technical design specifications to support the creation of artifacts Knowledge/Skill Requirements: Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role Proven track record of producing high-quality, clear, accurate, and complete documentation with no errors, within established deadlines Excellent knowledge of content/help authoring tools Knowledge of structured authoring, and topic-based authoring framework Can use Confluence and JIRA Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and have exceptional analytical skills Flexibility to easily flow with changing priorities, projects, and processes Comfortable with managing multiple projects and deliverables Ability to analyze and synthesize complex content Excellent writing and proofreading skills Interested in researching and learning new technologies in Technical Communications Strong portfolio of relevant writing examples University degree or college diploma in English, Communications, Technical Writing or a related field Financial content experience an asset Experience writing user-focused software documentation Basic understanding of design principles and UX concepts Understand concepts in business & technology process management
