Hemmera - Environmental Assessment and Permitting Specialist, Mining - Burnaby-(AUS0004SS)
You’re an experienced Environmental Assessment (EA) and Permitting Specialist looking to work with high-performing teams on both large and small projects. About the role
In your role, you will have the opportunity to take on a wide variety of tasks. Some examples are:
Providing strategic regulatory advice to proponents and technical teams during all stages of the project life cycle, including planning and feasibility studies, EA, post-EA permitting and compliance.
Leading the development of EA and permitting related applications and reports, including drafting of text, editing of text developed by technical disciplines, and providing senior strategic review of technical documents.
Leading the development of regulatory strategies for pre-EA and EA review phases and permitting review processes.
Providing leadership in managing and tracking communication processes between proponents, environmental teams, regulatory agencies and working groups.
Playing an active role in identifying, planning, and executing proposals and other business development opportunities.
Assisting in the mentoring, training, and career development of junior and intermediate staff with respect to EA and permitting work.
Providing leadership in implementing Hemmera processes and approaches (e.g., project management, quality program) to ensure that schedule, cost, and quality objectives for project deliverables are achieved.
You are solutions-oriented and have the following skills:
A university degree(s) in natural sciences, resource management, or engineering.
A professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Eng., P.Geo.) or the ability to obtain one.
8 – 10 years of relevant professional experience with increasing responsibilities in western Canada.
Knowledge of provincial, territorial and federal environmental legislation gained through formal studies and practical experience, including the Impact Assessment Act (and previous iterations), BC Environmental Assessment Act, BC Mines Act and BC Environmental Management Act.
General knowledge of a range of environmental disciplines (e.g., air quality, surface and groundwater quality, vegetation, wildlife, fish and fish habitat, socioeconomics, archaeology).
Good knowledge of the effects on environment and Indigenous interests
Experience in community and regulatory engagement planning, incorporation of traditional knowledge in EA and permitting.
Understanding of the mitigation hierarchy and general knowledge of or experience with compensation planning.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including technical writing.
Ability to think independently and strategically, maintain a positive attitude, be self-motivated and employ a strong work initiative.
Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
The following attributes may give you a competitive edge:
A master’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience with Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations, particularly Schedule 2 permit amendments.
Experience collaborating with Indigenous peoples.
Project management experience or a PMP certification.
Experience with client liaison and business development.
