In this role, the Seed Production Agronomist will manage and execute all phases of seed production for soybeans, corn, and cereals to ensure a high quality, reliable, and timely supply is produced for Syngenta. Foster an operational culture founded on HSE and process improvement. Actively engage and provide technical expertise with seed tollers and production research for seed multiplication. The Seed Production Agronomist is ideally based in South Western Ontario and will support with seed production in Ontario and Quebec. This is a 12-month contract position, covering a family leave. Accountabilities Work with Supply Planning to geographically place production acres with seed tollers to maximize yield and deliver seed meeting quality specifications Understand species and variety characteristics, seed quality standards, plant line characteristics (PLC) advancement priorities, and crop delivery requirements to optimize seed availabilities Monitor production fields to provide agronomic recommendations to optimize yield and cost of goods produced (COGP) Quality Champion for Canada Seeds General administrative management duties including collecting, preparing, inputting data for reports, participating in quality business system management meetings Foster an operational culture founded on adherence to all applicable HSE and other corporate policies, procedures and guidelines. Active leadership in the “Goal Zero” campaign Remain current with latest production technology to support seed production Cross functional knowledge and experience of production activities: conditioning, treating, packaging, and warehouse and distribution activities Coordinate bin sampling to ensure representative samples are procured in a timely and safe manner in accordance with requirements Establish and maintain a good working relationship with the 3rd party quality labs Manage Crop Certificates of parent production – assigning to Syngenta, obtaining Grower Declarations, providing copies to growers, etc. Qualifications Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related field Experience working within the seed industry Knowledge of seed production processes and best practices Strong agronomic acumen, and passion for growing the best crop Understanding of what it takes to grow a high-quality seed product Natural collaborator with ability to influence and educate seed partners Strong communicator with ability to communicate technical information to a variety of stakeholders Ability to travel within Canada
