The Motive Power Group requires temporary Faculty for periods of up to three months at our campus on Annacis Island in Delta to deliver training in several railway courses and programs, to a certification level.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES This position includes instructional responsibilities such as: teaching Federal and Provincial railway curriculum; preparing and presenting classroom lectures, course delivery and assessment materials; providing practical demonstrations and proficiency assessments; and working collaboratively within our heavy equipment faculty team, workshop technicians and Department Heads. BCIT Railway is a certified industrial railway in BC, and follows all applicable Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) and the Federal Railway Safety Act. As a railway professional, you will be currently certified in CROR and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) or have a willingness to obtain this. A successful applicant would have demonstrated experience as a Conductor or as a Locomotive Engineer, or both.
Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) Qualification by a Class 1 Railway (current, or willing to recertify)
A minimum of five years’ recent industry experience following certification (more preferred).
Hold current railway medical clearance to operate in a safety critical position (or willing to obtain)
Documented experience in the inspection and operation of railway equipment o(rail cars, locomotive, rail car mover).
Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Current computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and a Learning management system (LMS): ability to manage files located on a database.
Railway track maintenance experience would be an asset
Previous supervisory or leadership experience would be an asset.
Documented experience working as an Instructor in a post-secondary or industrial setting within a team environment is an asset.
