Job Description:

The Supplier Relations Specialist is responsible for supporting contract renewals, editing contracts, managing the supplier base and supporting governance activities including meetings, scorecards, data collection and analysis and acting as a liaison between Sun Life business units and suppliers. In addition to being an excellent communicator, the incumbent has in depth knowledge of procurement regulations, contract agreements and legal terminology and is comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

What will you do:

  • Create and communicate concise and consistent contract provisions, align contract terms with legal requirements and policies, ensure contracts attain achievable risk levels and suggest changes where needed
  • Be familiar with contract terms, payment structure and reimbursements
  • Devise logical approaches and suggestions to address issues
  • Judge and work under pressure and persuade parties in full fairness of Sun Life’s position
  • Coordinate and summarize competitive analysis, spend analysis, KPI’s and operating reports
  • Manage daily Contract Status and reports, create descriptions on aging contracts
  • Analysis-Oversee low tier suppliers delivery of services levels, cross reference with contract, analyze, track and report accordingly
  • Support team projects related to continuous improvements, suppliers and contracts as needed
  • Consult on issues impacting the efficiency and effectiveness of supplier relationship management and cross-functional processes
  • Proactively communicate results, issues, risks and progress
  • Ensure standard practices are being followed and collaborate on supplier management best practices
  • Organize work to meet agreed upon deadlines. May prepare schedules for short-term work activities (workflow) under guidance of next level leader
  • Use Sun Life and industry tools and practices effectively
  • What do you need to succeed:

  • Purchasing experience, working towards Supply Chain Designation
  • Purchasing analysis and negotiation skills
  • Industry knowledge of best practices for procurement and contracting
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle diversity of the job
  • Strong objective reasoning skills, ability to support and explain reasons for decisions and recommendations
  • Ability to work in high profile, fast paced and changing work environment and solve moderately complex problems
  • Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with supplier selection and performance management practices
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well (verbal and written)
  • Strong reporting and data analysis skills
  • Strong MS office and Excel skills
  • Assets:

  • Familiarity with insurance business practices and processes
  • Exposure to Lean and 6 Sigma methodology

  • The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
