Job Overview The Corporate Actuarial team at Wawanesa is growing! We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Corporate Actuarial to join our growing team, as we evolve and modernize the corporate actuarial function at Wawanesa. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for P&C policy liability valuation and actuarial financial reporting. You will lead a team of technical experts, providing coaching and leadership, while being accountable for timelines, including quarter and year end reporting. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years’ property and casualty actuarial experience, preferably with reserving experience, and thrives in an environment where they can bring their technical expertise and coaching or leadership experience to the team. Job Responsibilities: • Performs valuation of policy liabilities on a quarterly basis and makes recommendations with respect to changes.• Leads the preparation of a quarterly reporting package to the Senior Management and the Board that provides information on Wawanesa reserve position including recommendations with respect to changes.• Regularly monitors the level of claim reserves required by line of business and recommends changes where appropriate.• Ensures the reporting process around actuarial aspects of financial and regulatory reporting is carried out, including preparation of the Appointed Actuary Report.• Monitors case claim reserve activity and partners with key stakeholders to contribute to a shared understanding of past financial performance, changes in the business operations, and develop insights into future performance and the business plan.• Maintains the valuation database necessary for all policy valuation.• Identifies and recommends refined approaches to current reserving methodologies.• Manages performance of direct reports inclusive of providing professional and technical guidance and provide regular performance reviews.• Collaborates with other members of the Corporate Actuarial team to continuously enhance actuarial oversight practices and achieve Corporate Actuarial objectives. • Remains up to date on all regulatory and legal actions/decisions affecting insurance company operations in general and the corporate actuarial group specifically.• Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications • A minimum of 5 years’ property and casualty actuarial experience, preferably with reserving experience.• Degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.• Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society or the equivalent from other organizations. • Extensive knowledge of current insurance actuarial techniques. the Property Casualty insurance industry and insurance operations in general.• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to spot patterns, trends, understand context and its impact on all issues.• Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas in a simple, persuasive and eloquent manner. • Ability to coach and develop direct reports on technical and non-technical skills.• Comfortable confronting difficult issues and diplomatic in delivery of challenging messages.• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.• Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
