Join our team of passionate professionals and work with us to create a lasting impact.Our Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta, office is seeking a Wetland Ecologist to join our growing team. This job is mainly field based and will, at times, require travel several hours away. On occasion, our work schedules need to be flexible to meet client demands and business needs, and you may have to work outside of regular work hours to complete project or field work. This could involve long hours and extended time away in remote locations on short notice. The successful candidate must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. and be able to work in all types of weather conditions.Key Responsibilities: Active participation in maintaining Matrix’s strong safety cultureAct as field lead for wetland surveys, including wetland identification/delineation/classification in Alberta and Saskatchewan, plant identification, ecological land classification (ELC) survey and mapping, and assist with regulatory application developmentComplete pre-field planning for projects (i.e., safety planning, mapping preparation, equipment calibration) following Matrix standardsDevelop proposals and act as project manager responsible for scope, budget, and scheduleComplete moderate to complex reports, e.g., wetland and water body monitoring reports, wetland impact assessment reports, wetland construction reports, and treatment wetland reportsCollaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals across Matrix, including engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, ecologists, and remediation/reclamation specialistsLiaise with contractors and external stakeholders Education, Experience, Technical Skills: Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree(s) in biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, or related disciplineRegistered, or eligible to register, as a Professional Biologist (P.Biol.) or Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.)Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in wetland and vegetation sciences and assessment and monitoring practicesPrevious experience with wetland assessments and surveys, vegetation assessmentsKnowledge and experience with GIS mapping software and mapping techniques would be considered an assetUnderstanding of environmental legislation, regulations, and guidelinesWorks easily in a team, in different field environments, and with various data collection and analyses productsIs thoughtful, thorough, and inquisitive in completing office and field tasksHas the energy and desire to support others and respond to the changing needs of a dynamic environmentHas strong interpersonal skills and can communicate effectively through verbal and technical writing Matrix is committed to providing a safe and productive work environment and to promoting the health, safety and well-being of our employees.
