Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Business Analyst performs a broad range of detailed data management, data analysis, report development and report writing activities. The Business Analyst is a key member of the team that will work cross-functionally with all organizational departments in support of current and future reporting and insight-based requirements.

This role is expected to deeply understand the database(s) design and the data therein in order to help drive operational, financial and compliance-related reporting and dashboards. The Business Analyst utilizes disciplined data management practices to organize and compile data and has a structured approach for presenting the needed performance data in a consistent and unified way. They will help develop the infrastructure and approach to transition to Power BI in 2021.

The Business Analyst helps develop standardized reports and dashboards of key operational data and works to develop 'data-users' to independently access the information they may require. They work with various stakeholders to develop ad-hoc reporting when information is not as easily accessible, or when specific insights may need to be developed. They recognize that data needs/wants of different stakeholders may be similar and makes process improvements by using that same core data for different purposes and insights. Over time, the Business Analyst will work with senior management to help develop new forecasting capabilities within the company.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management

  • Gather, consolidate, filter, and "clean" the data from a variety of sources, including historical data and supply chain data.
  • Perform data cleansing and reconciliation.
  • Work with team members to create statistical and quantitative reports in support of policy, process analysis and improvements.
  • Work in a team-based environment - exchange information, ideas and provide guidance, both within and across other teams/departments maintaining an approachable, responsive attitude.
  • Develop the data infrastructure needed to transition to Power BI.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while exhibiting professionalism.
  • Participate in the ongoing development of tools and supporting processes.
  • Reporting

  • Identify business objectives and collaborate with team members to gather business information needs.
  • Develop a structure to efficiently manage the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly operational reports including creation, distribution, follow up and resolution of any issues within systems.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand their business objectives and develop valuable reporting and ad-hoc data extracts.
  • Streamline users' access to data – Identify each end-user's strategic function and ensure their reporting solution is optimized (ie. dashboards, standard reports, etc.).
  • Help build capability for team members to obtain data and/or run their own queries on an as-needed basis in order to build their own reports.
  • Work with team members to leverage capabilities of the Quickbase system.
  • Support ad-hoc requests for data analysis and reporting.
  • Analysis

  • Through an in-depth understanding of the data, identify trends and anomalies in the data.
  • Assess the trends/anomalies and analyze the data in development of a thorough and accurate understanding of the issue(s) and develop supportable insights (e.g. seasonal impacts, geographical trends, etc.) to aid in solution development.
  • Help enable leadership team to make informed, data-based decisions by providing business analyses and analytical support, particularly in areas where data is difficult to access / unreliable and where a high level of analytical skill is required.
  • Continually seek, report, evaluate, and make recommendations to leadership to improve planning and forecasting.
  • Help drive continuous improvement in forecasting process and methodology.

  • Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics, or related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in a data analytics & reporting role
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc.), databases (SQL, etc.), programming (XML, JavaScript, or ETL frameworks)
  • Demonstrated technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
  • Proficiency using Power BI and QuickBase.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at insight-based report writing and presenting findings
  • Possesses a well-developed critical thinking ability and a strong problem-solving capacity.
  • Ability to work as a team member,
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills to manage a workload with competing demands and deadlines.
  • Experience using a variety of software tools including Microsoft Office.
